Post by jack russell » Wed Sep 12, 2007 4:05 pm

Hi all I am new here

and have just been gifted some home brewing kit courtesy of freecycle.

I am unsure what to do with the lid once i put the lager in the keg.. I have put it on and tightened to the little arrow.

do i need to ad c02  or just leave it

I siphoned the lager into it last night and added 80g of sugar.

That brown barrel is identical to the first barrel I ever owned! And I had one of those injectors, but it never worked properly. I had to chuck the barrel a few years ago as the weld went and it started leaking.

As Daab says, it takes the small green sparklets bulbs, and automatically injects CO2 when the pressure goes below the optimum level.

They are very prone to leaking and dispensing all the CO2 in your bulb into the room. I would recommend checking all the seals very carefully - maybe the judicious application of vaseline would be advisable.

IIRC, the arrow should be lined up before screwing the lid on - it's there to ensure you don't cross-thread it.

Ok might have been said before but i'm bloody shatterd, hehe...

Ok i got two barrels with these injecters, you can use any C02 bulbs... Dont have to bve green, you can buy them fro cream whip supopliers, or search for C02 bulbs or NO2 bulbs the same people sell both, you need 6gram bulbs NOT 16 bulbs, abit rusty on the sizes but shatterd from work...

Also Jim is correct as they do let the C02 into your room, so only USE them when the barrel is half full, the natural C02 will be fine, you only CHARGE the keg with a bulb when it's half full or not flwoing right, like it glugs air through the tap...

But these are very good, also DONT leave a bulb in the screw capo bit, as thats your pressure valve, so leave it in and keg will leak with to much pressure. e,g

MY barrel with this on i left bulb in and it got so pressured that the tap wasser got puched out and it leaked from there, just take bulb out and let pressure out and your fine. think that covvers it, sorry shatterd from work, hehe

So from what i read above, i dont add any c02 now while the barrel is full just as it gets used if there is a problem with the pouring.

I checked out the link and i think i will ask for the brown bottles only try to keep them all the same, i like a bit of uniformity

That's a Boots injector. I tried about three of them and they all lost pressure. Get rid of it!
