I jumped over a fence and landed awkwardly, nearly 9 weeks ago and still a whisk away from being able to walk. I've done one brew since with a mate doing most of it for me with me directing things and it turned out a horrible one. I'm fast running out of decent beer to drink.

I've got one question before the brewalong later this month.

I've ordered the kit from The Malt Miller, which as I understand comes with 60g EKG for dry hopping.

I've not dry hopped before and I see in Jim's recipe he says dry hop in cask. I thought leaving the hops in for too long ended up with grassy flavours in the beer?

How long have others left the hops in for? and have you done it in FV or cask?

Thanks

I didn't dry hop my first batch of Jim's ESB and I'm not sure if I will this time. It's plenty hoppy as it is!

If I do, I will dry hop in the FV but 60g seems rather a lot? I would be keen to know from others who made this first time round whether they dry hopped or not and by what method.

What did you do Jim??

I didn't dry hop - that's an option, but I don't think it's essential unless you are a proper hop head.

So what does everyone think?

I was late and mine tastes 100% ready after two weeks in the bottle. Fantastic beer, I have been going over my notes making sure I haven't missed any details as I will be brewing this again for sure. I did the Malt Miller kit, brewed to the letter.

I'm impressed with it - not the type of beer I would usually make but am enjoying it. It was quite harsh for the first few weeks but was giving a sample to a mate last week and the taste has progressed nicely.

Mine still hasn't cleared. I'm wondering if I didn't get full conversion in the mash now. Very tasty though, quite light in body and hop forward

I've not tried mine yet. The bottles have been sitting in the cellar since I took them out of the fermentation cabinet. Perhaps I'll give one a try this evening.

Mine has come out not very "bitter" at all, or at least the sweet biscuit malt backbone stops it seeming bitter. Its got a nice hop forward lemon / floral taste and aroma.

I'm enjoying this one... it is on the "brew again" list - there is a nice caramel/malty backbone to it that I like.

When I do it again I will reduce the bitterness to about 40IBU and bias late hops towards something citrussy/floral like Savinjski Goldings and dry hop with them as well.

Yum.
