Time to use my insulated Boiler/Mash tun

If you cast your mind back to the cheap boilers that Tchibo were selling ,

Well I bought one as did others from this forum. With its central boiling element it was a bit lack-lustre in its ability to get a good rolling boil going. I decided to strip down an old kettle and add a second element. I didn't stop there as I have read about insulating and decided I would use up some gash timber I had lying around.
I built a rough frame around the boiler and then squirted in some expanding foam. Too much in fact so I had some cutting to do once it had set! I then finished it off with some wood stain and now its a 'Turbo boiler'!!

I cranked it up today with a Brewers choice 'Best bitter' kit added to with1Kg of D.M.E.
Here are the pics....

And here is the kit.

Finished off with a good stir with the good old drill and paddle

Finally I pitched the yeast

Nice work - was it much grief drilling the hole for the 2nd element ?

Andy
Yes it wasn't the easiest thing to do. I drilled a circle of holes, then cut around them all and finished off with a file. I found this glue that can take very high temps and put that around the seal just to make sure there were not going to be any leaks.

Nice work there 8)

Perhaps you could setup a side business of Boiler moding

Maybe for the gas guys a nitro mix to "hot" up the boil quicker
