Brewday - Lucky7

Evening chaps

Today I have been busy and brewed the following recipe

Image

4100g Pale Malt
200g Crystal
200g Torrified Wheat

Mashed for 2 hours @ 68C was supposed to be 90 mins but bottling another brew took me longer than anticipated.

25 IBU's from the following hops in a 90 min boil

33g Fuggles 4.5% - 12 IBU's
37g EKG's 4.1% - 12 IBU's
3g Styrian Goldings - 1 IBU

15g of Fuggles and 15g EKG's were added 15 mins from the end and then I threw in 5g Irish Moss 10 mins from the end and 40g of Styrians 5 mins from the end. I ended up with 25l of 1043 wort - :) Fermentation is courtesy of the ever reliable Safale S04

I called the brew Lucky7 and then proceeded to stab myself in the hand separating the hops I burned my finger stirring the hot wort and then the hop strainer came off the back of the tap so I ended up having to sterilise a sieve and run the wort into the FV with through that.

Mustn't complain though 25l of beer for around a tenner isn't to be sniffed at. My beer cave is starting to look like how I anticipated it looking when I started brewing.

That long?

I can't believe I've only had one 500ml bottle of any AG beer I'm so proud of myself. The barefoot bitter only had 19 days in the bottle but man was it good, and best of all it had no sweet plastic tang you get from some of the lighter kits.

Next week I'm on holiday and the mini mash beer has had a month in the bottles its days are numbered - I can't wait

You have cellared an impressive array o beer.

Despite the bodily injury it sounds like a grand day.

You must've been really thirsty that week even my first kit made it to three weeks before I drank some!

I'll have to see if I can get a picture of it. The trouble is the place is so narrow I can't get the camera far enough back to fit it all in the frame!

We also have a couple of gallons of turbo cider and one of wine in there too. The "Various Kits" are a Muntons Gold Highland Heavy which I have to say is one of the better kits I have sampled, a Coopers IPA and a cheapy lager kit made up with malt and dry hopped with EKG's.

Great brewday, JP.
You're racking up an awesome beer cave there. 8)

Quick update chaps

Cracked a sneaky bottle of Lucky7 today and it's a keeper 8). The beer is light with a nice subtle malty flavour. It has that lovely caramel bitterness fuggles give and then there's also a slight floral note from the goldings which is finished off by nice juicy citrus notes from the Styrians. Another home brewed beer that would pass muster down the pub - Cheers Guys

PS it also passes the feck test

Nicely done,

I spend way to much time admiring my beer or at least my wife tells me that.

What happened to the beer cave - there used to be gallons now your down to almost starvation rations! :D

Starvation Rations? - You must be kidding, there's still gallons in there I still have some kit beer left in there too not to mention turbo cider and wine!

There'll be no beer famine round these parts
