What you're proposing sounds fine, Jubby. You'll need a decent hop filter in the boiler, and maybe recirculate the boiling wort for longer.
If you're using an immersion chiller then keep the pump running -- it speeds up the cooling tremendously.

Re: LCD Stick on thermometers?
FWIW this was to bind a naked sensor (NTC but it could have been another type) to the copper output pipe of the CFC with PTFE tape - then insulation and a final layer of pvc tape. (I first soldered a copper slip coupler/joiner over the CFC's pipe for extra thickness, which allowed a small flat to b...

Re: LCD Stick on thermometers?
The LCD stick-on jobs are fine for a rough-and-ready reading, but the hot water will knacker them after a while.
I stick them permanently onto aluminium foil, then just press them against whichever vessel/pipe I want to measure.

That looks awesome, Poppazombie. Nice work.

I once hooked up a mechanical relay to a PID and it wouldn't switch at all.

Re: Preparing a stock Buffalo Boiler for brewing
I recently bought a 10l Buffalo from Nisbets, Nesbits, whatever it's called, and the tap hole and tap thread had straight sides. To fit a standard 15mm tank connector I had to enlarge the hole with a dremel and an aluminium oxide bit. It's not a difficult job, though.

Re: Thermopot with taps
I just replaced the tap with a ball-valve. On the inside, I connected up the grain filter with some silicon tube. The height of the tap doesn't really matter if you get a syphon going.

How does it work with the 'o' rings? Are they in between the T and the straight pipe?

Re: Pimp my King Keg!
I added a pressure gauge to my bottom tap KK and I'm getting strange readings- suspect I've got a slow leak. Filled it with a kit ale, applied vaseline to the washers etc, gave it a blast from an 8g CO2 to check- the pressure shot up then vented down to 10psi, over the next few hours it slowly drop...

Re: Upgrade - advice needed please
It's okay to run two elements from the same ring circuit, as long as you plug each element into a separate socket. (Not a double socket; two physically separate sockets.) Two 2.4kW elements (say) will draw a total of 20 Amps. A domestic ring circuit can handle up to 32 Amps. To be safe, don't use th...

So are Cam & Groove and Quick Disconnects liable to leak? Doesn't that rather defeat the point of them?barneey wrote: In order of the strongest seal

Re: Ball Valves for Recirculation
When you're reducing the flow of a magnetic pump it's better to do it on the output rather than the input. And don't call me Shirley. I understand that, but Shirley you have the ball valve attached to the pump, not the pot...? Just seems like you could save some £££ on ball valves... Cheers, Bob. A...
