Re: Steam management

I called my brewery 'The Steam Room' after my first ever brew day i am glad she was out as the window had been open for 20 mins when i took the photo on this thread it took me ages to wipe the walls down. I think i feel a washing up bowl modification on the way.

I used Graham's water treatment calculator yesterday for the Hogsback Brewery TEA clone to calculate the amount of CRS to add. The only figure i could not find was sulphates of which anglian water recommended a guide figure of 250mg/l. It indicated not adding any salts just 43ml of CRS. My efficency...

Sounds good I'm a bit of a coffee nut but would swap the raisins for grape concentrate one of the 245 ml tins. The raisins just add body same as the concentrate and a lot less hassle just open a tin and pour in. Have you checked out this forum loads of stuff on it?

Calculate amount of hops for wort size before boil or after

Do i calculate the amount of hops i require for the amount of wort collected at the start of boil or for the amount of wort to be collected after the boil?

Cheers for that Steve i will prime then, i like that type of beer fizzy and cold on a hot summers day. Lets hope that we are going to get a few of those hot sunny days this year.

Do i need to prime bottles for a Hefeweizen?

I have made a Hefeweizen and its due to be bottled today or tomorrow, as the yeast is not filtered or fined out do i need to prime the bottles or will the suspended yeast and residual sweetness provide enough carbonation?

The yeast will kick in soon youngs yeast always seams to have a long lag time. I add 100g of sugar to my TC and regularly get between 5-8%ABV depending on yeast used i can recommend using Gervin Yeast - Varietal C or Lalvin DV10 but the Lalvin stuff is getting hard to find now.

I did rouse it and it is working slowly i think its not gone to well due to the age of the yeast it was close to its sell by date and Mr Malty said i should of pitched 2.5 packets. I only had 2 so maybe that's the problem. Will remember to check sell by date next time. #-o
