Re: beers software recommendation please

I purchased Beersmith in the recent sale. Money well spent, loving it.

You need to explore all of the settings but this is part of the fun. Maybe not for a beginner though.

Re: beers software recommendation please

I use Beer Engine which looks a bit dated but works well.

After a breif departure to several other bits of software I returned to Beer Engine as it seems to be excellent for tweaking recipes.

Stainless Steel Tap Handles

I am looking for a Stainless Steel Tap Handle for my Perlick tap. The only places that I have found on the internet do not ship to the UK.

Does anyone know who would supply these to the UK?

Re: Sweetening Bitter?

Yeast will also play a part in the level of residual sweetness. I have brewed the same beer with S04 and WLP002. The liquid yeast has a lower attenuation, which leaves the beer a bit sweeter and improves the mouth feel. The S04 version was dryer and thinner.

Turbo Cider Volcano

I have just managed to create a turbo Cider Volcano!!! As I do not like the taste of artificial sweeteners, I added some stabiliser to my Cider yesterday to kill the yeast. The plan was to sweeten using sugar and then force carbonate. However, as with all homebrew techniques, I was trying to save ti...

Re: Fly sparging question

The problem I had with fly sparging was wort cooling. Keeping the spinny thing at a slow enough speed with a gentle run off, caused the wort too cool down as the mash tun lid was open. Batch sparging avoids this and has given me better results. Plus it's much easier.

Re: Yeast Starter Info Needed & You tube link

Using s04 I have always just sprinkled on top of the wort. Leave for 15 to rehydrate floating on surface. Then a good stirring. Never fails and starts vigorously in a few hours.

Re: I hate bloody autosyphons!

Hold your siphon tube in your fist so that the end of the tube is just below your first finger and thumb. Put your fist to your mouth and suck til you go blue.

If you can perfect this method you should not touch the tube with your mouth. No auto siphon required.

Andy's link was five taps for £12. Used these too and they work well.

Re: Connecting the earth a STC 1000 temp controller

The STC1000 unit itself does not need to be earthed But you must earth anything that it is supplying power to Or any metal casing. Take a look at my wiring diagram. It shows the power sockets being earthed but in your case thus will be the freezers original earthing. http://brew.x10.mx/images/STC100...
