Keg fitting

Hi everyone I’ve been offered a keg with the attached fitting on the neck. It doesn’t look like a normal spear but any ideas if I can remove it or what it is called. If I can use it there may be a few more available Cheers Wilf https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20221209/ee52bbbed39dabf0c87700777a4aac...

Re: Grain Gorilla

I’ve had one for a couple of months now. I would recommend it but don’t have any experience with other mills. It appears more robust than my mates Chinese version. Although with Covid I haven’t actually had a close look.
I would buy again…

Re: 2 weeks warm 2 weeks cold

Just remember that you are stabilising by stopping yeast growth. You may not therefore get fizz because you have inhibited the yeasts metabolism. Sorbate works by stopping reproduction so some yeast may be viable enough to give some fizz but its not guaranteed. It will depend on the population but y...

Stopping rust/ passivating stainless steel

I have recently got a four inch triclamp port welded to the top of a 50l beer keg. I understood that to stop rusting I should passivate the welds with a strong 1:1 paste of bar keepers friend for 30 minutes before washing and drying. Unfortunately this hasn’t done the trick and Ive already got rust ...

Re: OG

Depends in what you are fermenting with. If you are using a packet of yeast as Wales says nutrient will help. Wild yeast can take much longer to start fermenting as the yeast biomass increases. What is the type of juice. Wild pressed apples can have very low levels of nitrogen. Bought juice likely t...

Size of hops on the bine

I’ve noticed that my goldings hops have a large variation in size. Any ideas why? Is it nutrition or environmental?

There doesn’t seem ti be a pattern were on the bine the largest are.

Re: Keg type for a conversation

The malt miller sell a bespoke part that fits corny posts onto a 2” tri clamp ferrule, it has a flexible dip tube that you could attach a cask widge float onto, which would be very handy for these sankey -> fermenter conversions. I am looking to get into this for pressure fermentation. A good sourc...

Re: Keg type for a conversation

Thanks Kev,
Just what I am looking for. I didn’t know about the ownership. Something to bear in mind. Was going to give the triclamp idea a run and see if it was ok.

Keg type for a conversation

I want to convert a 50l keg into a fermenter but I’m confused about the fittings on the keg. They all have a 2inch outlet at the top but lots of different couplers. Is each keg specific to to coupler or can they be taken off just leaving a round hole for a bung. I intend to take out the spear ect an...

Re: Removeable elements

This is what I use with the 2.4w curly element. Dead easy to take apart and no leaks
Getting the shroud just made life much simpler to take the elements out fir a scrub

Thanks Guy
Looks like just what I need
Electrics are a complete mystery to me.
I still have nightmares about circuits in a level physics and that was 20+ years ago!
