Cheap Kettle Elements

I installed 7 Tesco Kettle elements in my brewery in 2008. After extensive use, one burnt out last week and one burnt out last night (because I switched it on with no water in the HLT). So I got a couple of replacements from Argos (Value kettle) £4.95 each: Unless you use the current Groupon offer o...

Re: What's a good HERMS pump?

I use air operated Flojet pumps. I have been using the same 2 pumps for 7 years and never had a problem with them. I can regulate the flow infinitely. See my old posts for more info.

Mostly use EKG and Cascade equally frequently, closely followed by Centennial and Aurora.

By the way the voting thing wont accept my votes....says it is invalid

Re: Hop and Grain supplies

Maybe you just don't like 'em!! Its the interesting bitterness that I like about them, leaves you with a dry roof of the mouth in the after-taste :) I quite like "dry" brews like well hopped "Cascade" brews....but my NS brews did'nt taste particularly dry.... they just tasted like some tw4t had top...

Re: Hop and Grain supplies

I started a Nelson Sauvin poll on the feedback forum on BB :D . OK so I take it the 2 of you like NS hops....I have done 2 brews with this hop...The first went down the drain...though sadly not before I persevered with it for a week :-& and the second I managed to add to a EKG brew to make it palat...

7 billion people around the world use metric; there is a minority of just 350 million people that are still in the dark-ages: can you possibly explain what you mean by "standard". They'll be the ones who didn't succomb to Napoleon Bonaparte.....well at least not until the 1960's... :? .By the way w...

Re: Electric element safety shroud ideas

Y Or just connect the immersion heater to two leads/13amp plugs. Would it work ? Why not just use 2 X 1.5kW, kettle elements, that way, the plugs are well within design limits..and..if you use an independent circuit for each plug, you also reduce the load on the ring main which might also be runnin...

Re: Electric element safety shroud ideas

P.S....I would think it is a good idea to bond all your metal bits together with 6mm earth wire, preferably bolted to each component and then connected to a good earth. Though I am NOT an expert and wouldn't advise you to do this without seeking expert advice. Alternatively, you could brew wearing o...

A length cut from a "caulking gun sized" bath sealant or No-nails tube; epoxy or super glued to the 3mm of plastic at the base of the element....Idea from someone else on here about 2 years ago and works a treat.

My bines have done terrible this year. My established bines got off to a flying start in the early spring, I would say I had about 10X the mass of bines I had last year and up until June they were prospering....I was in for a bumber crop :=P ...Unfortunately the aphids seemed to take over almost ove...

Re: Hop Growing 2009

Thanks - do you know that despite the varieties I chose to grow and the ones I buy from online HBS all over the world for the few brews I do, my favourite hops are still East Kent Goldings? I should get a plant, really. I really don't think you can beat a good English ale made simply using two-row ...
