Re: Herms PID for fermenting fridge?
make, model number of the pid unit and google will tell you what its capable of afaik most pids can heat Or cool but not both at the same time, the 2 x plugs? the 2 plugs, 1 labled pid will power the pid unit, allowing you to use it as an electronic thermometer, the HERMS plug will probably be wire...

Herms PID for fermenting fridge?
I've acquired a Herms PID(which I don't actually know how to use it and as I use a GF I doubt it's much use) could I adopt it to make a brew fridge? It's got a temp probe, 2 plugs, 1 labelled PID and the other Herms and then 1 socket on the top which is switched on/off when the set temperature is re...

Re: New Grainfather
I used a GF today in their comp, I must say I was rather impressed with it. IMO, the new controller is a lot better, mainly because it uses a pid for the element and you don't have to keep lifting a flap to use the switches / buttons. It doesn't have have hop addition reminders like the bm nor does...

Re: new hlt build - finally completed
Another question for you, did you not find the thermowell leaked if it was only pinched at the end? I would guess water would get anywhere so even the smallest gap would leak?

Re: new hlt build - finally completed
Got it out now guys, bit of force, what seemed like a million different screw drivers and patience. Right, this is the inside of my burco, http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/08/u7atydav.jpg The white wire is the incoming supply which will need to go to my switch. Then the L and N will go from the switc...

Re: new hlt build - finally completed
Not dumb questions at all, if you've not done this kind of thing before its far better to ask than plough blindly on! The simmerstat is the original rotary knob power control fitted to the burco - visible in the 4th picture with lots of wires coming off it. Power switch was: http://www.maplin.co.uk...

Re: new hlt build - finally completed
How easy was it to wire the controller to control the on/off for the hlt? Ryan it was easy in reality, I was convinced I'd get it wrong but it worked 1st time. I kept the existing power lead and removed the simmerstat and all attached wiring, I fitted the new power switch and connected the power ca...

Re: Potential cheap temperature controller?
Looks like it ought to work, temperature probe getting toward its limits though in an HLT (0-95c) perhaps you can be the JBK guinea-pig on this? I've just finished my own HLT build and the controller I used was this one; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-40-to-120-NEW-30A-Temperature-Control-Contro...
