Re: Mandarin Dream

£19.52 for 750ml on the page I looked at. Seems expensive, but I doubt if you would need much for 5 gallons of beer. Think it works out cheaper than the extract I used. There are other cheaper options on Amazon.

Click on the Union Jack at bottom of the page. Takes you to Amazon UK where you can buy it.

Re: Mandarin Dream

That might explain the problem I had. I used Asda's version of Valencian Orange Extract which I see has 20% orange oil and the rest is rapeseed.

Re: Mandarin Dream

That looks very similar to what I used. Oil of orange being the main ingredient. Be interesting to see what effect it has on the head of your beer. Unless of course you don't like a head on your beer in which case you should be fine.[emoji2][emoji481]

Re: Mandarin Dream

What kind of orange extract is it? I tried an orange extract in a stout, but because it was oily it killed the head.

Re: Mandarin Dream

Turned out great. Lovely orangey flavour. Only negative is that the sediment has gone very loose recently. Needs to be really chilled down and poured very carefully. Not entirely sure it's yeast though. Doesn't seem to have an infection, just this very loose sediment which floats up in the bottle. S...

Re: Excess Barrel Pressure?

Sorry. Worked for me. Maybe the sparkler is exaggerating the problem.

Re: Excess Barrel Pressure?

A length of silicon tubing attached to the tap and long enough to reach the bottom of your pint glass can help reduce foaming. Still have to pour fairly gently and keep the tube on the bottom of the glass till poured, but does help in my experience. Not sure if it would work with a sparkler tap thou...

Re: High ABV

You are only using 30 litres total water, of which approximately 1 litre per kilo of grain will be absorbed by the grist. That leaves 25-26 litres pre-boil, but you are aiming for 25 litres post-boil if you are following Graham Wheeler's 25 litre recipes. The boil will evaporate some of the wort lea...

Black Shadow Bitter

Brewed this one on Tuesday. OG came out at 1.040, so 1 point up on predicted gravity. Progress hops were from "A Bushel of Hops". Very resiny and fresh. Styrians came from The Homebrew Company and were very fragrant and floral. Brewer's Gold was leftovers from an earlier brew, think they came from t...

Bottled this yesterday. Nice orangey aroma. Gravity still at 1.007 so definitely finished.

Re: Mandarin Dream

Just added 30g Mandarina Bavaria dry hop with 50g of dried bitter orange peel. Took a gravity reading and it's down to 1.007 against a predicted FG of 1.008. Tastes good with a definite hint of orange. Looking forward to this one being ready to drink in a few weeks. Sent from my LG-H870DS using Tapa...

Re: Mandarin Dream

Cheers Jim, The previous brew was fermented with the original mix of Imperial Tartan and Gervin and I am currently working my way through it. The Imperial Tartan yeast was selected because I assumed it was a version of the McEwan's strain such as WLP028 or WY1728 which I have used in the past and fo...

Mandarin Dream

Yesterday was a brewday. Haven't posted a brewday for quite a while so thought it was time I did. Nice smooth brewday with no issues. Mashed for 90 minutes (@ 65C) as I had a few things to do, but normally I mash for 60 minutes. First time using Mandarina Bavaria hops so hoping they have a nice oran...
