Re: Christmas Chocolate Stout

Looks good. Not sure how much chocolate flavour you'll get, but should be tasty anyway.
I personally wouldn't bother with a flameout hop addition in a stout, particularly when it's just 5g. Chuck it in at 60.

Re: Making up short brew length

Alternatively you could batch sparge. I do two batch sparges splitting the sparge water equally and recirculating for about 10 to 15 minutes each time followed by a slowish runoff. With this method your runnings will never go as low as 1.005. I regularly achieve efficiency of over 80% with this meth...

Unless you can isolate single cells and grow from there I don't think there's much else you can do.

Re: Re-using yeast: floculation issue

Do you have any bottles which contain yeast before the characteristics changed? You could re-cultivate it from a couple of them.

Re: Repitching yeast slurry

That dosage is extremely small. Only 5g per hectolitre. Can that amount really make a difference to fermentation?

Dave Line Bitter

Brewed this four days ago. Took it from the Dave Line Big Book of Brewing. Bit of a spur of the moment decision to brew. Mad rush to get everything prepped. Grain weighed and crushed, liquor additions weighed out etc. Disaster!!! I was doing the second sparge and forgot to turn off the drain tap on ...

Re: Voss Kveik for a big stout?

I have used it in an IPA, but not a 10% brew. Brings an orange flavour with it, so maybe a chocolate orange stout? Might be drowned out by the roasty flavours of the stout though.
I believe it is good for fermenting high abv beers, so should work.

Re: S30 elastic band failed

I suspect the issue is the basic keg itself. I had one which cracked on the seam. I think they are just not thick enough and over time they weaken and eventually break. I would have thought the PRV should have worked okay if the pressure was too high since it is just a rubber band. Not much to go wr...

Re: Salted Chocolate Cinder Toffee Imperial Stout

Not sure about torching or oven. Think the oven would be more controllable maybe. I noticed that they list lactose in rhe ingredients. Is that in the stout you have brewed?

Re: Salted Chocolate Cinder Toffee Imperial Stout

I can see why you want to brew this. At £7.50 a can (plus postage) it could be an expensive habit. [emoji51]

Re: Brewday embuggerences

I too am prepared to offer my services to help you with the stout ;) Actually I quite like the stout… over 10% abv, and with lashings of chocolate, coffee and bourbon. If only it didn’t keep me awake at night! Message me your address and I’ll send you a bottle. A 10% stout that keeps you awake........

Re: AG# 48 Chocolato Imperial Stout

I have kept a stash of this beer in the shed for almost 5 years now and tasted a bottle from time to time. It never carbonated unfortunately. I tried re-seeding in Feb 2017 using a starter made with S04, but probably didn't add enough as only a couple of bottles carbonated at all. However, on 13th F...

Not sure if they still make it, but Cooper's European Lager was pretty good when I made it several years ago. Proper lager yeast in the kit I believe.
