Re: Bread in the beer ( Toast Ale )

Update Yes bread is pretty good in the beer ( IMHO ) http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa46/amticoman/2016-03-21%2018.12.52.jpg Its made a very nice beer with no nasty tastes or unusual flavours certainly worth using and more experiments needed but this first attempt is very drinkable even Mrs Trou...

Re: Bread in the beer ( Toast Ale )

Saw this... http://www.brewuk.co.uk/blog/bread-beer/  Not just as easy as just bunging in the bread I found the bread crumbs filled the gaps in the grain and really slowed the sparge . would it work if the bread was in a BIAB muslin bag as long as it received the enzymes from the grain for st...

Re: Bread in the beer ( Toast Ale )

Yes will certainly update when its finished and ready to drink the bread was bought on sunday from Aldi 1 seeded batch , 1 tiger loaf , 1 toaster white and 1 whole meal loaf so no stale or out of date stuff probably could have used one loaf less judging by the amount of wort I got and the runnings w...

Re: Bread in the beer ( Toast Ale )

one of those brews when things go a bit wrong

nearly stuck sparge followed by running out of gas with half an hour still to go for the boil .

but ended up with 27 liters of 1056 gravity wort in the fermenter so the bread added quite a few gravity points
to the brew

Re: Bread in the beer ( Toast Ale )

Bazz gone the other way because I had lots of Fuggles followed by late EKG and a few leftover Cascade
the Sparge was a mare very slow but not stuck (2 hours to get 30 litres )
so needs some husks adding to aid that .
just chilling now so will see if it added any gravity soon

Re: Dry hop ball

Used it in the FV for dry hopping not tasted anything out of the ordinary in the beer Seems strange so have popped it into a salt solution to see if it goes rusty I did think about nasties hiding in the mesh on the lips of each sieve so gave it a good boil before using and will do that each time

Re: Dry hop ball

Sadly tapered. but not a problem its quite solid a mating even with just bits of wire holding it together

no way too big for a corny
and probably no good for hop pellets
