Re: Cleaning "rings" in bottles
I picked up some bottles from a local pub and used half a teaspoon of sodium percarbonate per bottle and hot water (>60C) for half an hour. Absolutely clean inside.

Re: Novice yeast harvesting thread
I use the residual green beer that is left in the primary fermentation vessel to swirl the culture back into suspension, wait a few minutes for the break and dead yeast cells to settle, and carefully decant between 250 and 350ml of thin slurry into a sanitized 500ml Erlenmeyer flask after wiping th...

Re: WLP002 starter smell question
Bit of an update. The foul smell in the starter did not go away, so what I did I split the brew into two fermenters, one with the suspect starter, the other one with other yeast. The reason was if the starter was dodgy, then only half of the batch would be lost. I placed the starter vessel in the fr...

Re: Liquid yeast, beer still tastes 'green'
YeastWhisperer yes, I read your earlier post that green apples can only be reduced and not eliminated. I bottled the beer after three weeks of fermentation. For fermentation I used slurry from the secondary... I guess the acetaldehyde could have been caused by poor condition of yeast?

Re: Liquid yeast, beer still tastes 'green'
Sorry for reviving this thread, I brewed Worthington White Shield clone which has been in bottles for over a month now. There was a very distinct green aroma after two weeks. After five weeks the aroma is fading. The bottles are stored in the garage, the temperature is 16-18C. Now I read conflicting...

WLP002 starter smell question
I made a 1L starter with WLP002 on Wednesday. I was thinking of brewing on Friday, but on Friday morning I tried the starter, it had unpleasant smell, perhaps bit like bad eggs. I tasted it and, well it is not vinegar, rather taste of fermented starter. My wife agrees it is not vinegar, she says the...

Re: JBK Own IPA/ALE
For my 10th AG brew I fancied something special, so I brewed JBK IPA today. Bit late, but I'm a lazy brewer ;P
I thought I had ordered Progress but... turns out I bought Target instead. The names are not even similar
anyway, replaced Progress with Fuggles.

Re: Moreland "Old Golden Hen" Clone
[quote="Pinto"]What I did obtain was an intensely fruity, flavourful golden ale with good body. one that I fully intend to try again with better yeast. Personally, I like the deeper body to the brew, but if you wanted to thin the body to more closely follow the Moreland brew, a yeast with high atten...
