Sparge water
Hi all. I'm quite lucky (l think) that my tap water alkalinity is between 26 and 38. I use the calculator on here to add salts to the mash. However,l only treat the mash water. Is there any need to treat the sparge water too,other than campden? I've recently read that it should also be a ph of 6 or ...

Yes! I've no local store,so always try and order from closest. I really try to use those where l can order exactly what l need,instead of having 500g of malt spare. Then l find they are out of stock of the yeast l need or don't stock something else.

Well,l managed to burn the DME and sugar, so ended up just caramelising 454g sugar and a good squirt syrup from a bottle l didn't know we had. Ended up 1092.

4500g Pilsner malt
1800g Amber malt
900g Munich malt
900g demerara 10 mins boil
454g DME and 454g sugar caramelised 10 mins boil
65g Styrian Goldings 4.4AA 60 mins
25g Saaz 2.19 AA 15 mins
WLP 530
Nearly filled up mash tun! Mash in 68c, mash out at 90 mins was still 68c
1800g Amber malt
900g Munich malt
900g demerara 10 mins boil
454g DME and 454g sugar caramelised 10 mins boil

Hi, I'm planing on doing Randy Mosher's Christmas Quad,fro his 12 beers of Christmas. Has anyone ever made this, and what yeast did they use, thinking of WLP 530.

Well,it's back! That plasticy off flavour. Oxidised it when bottling,as some dry hops clogged the auto syphon filter,causing a lot of bubbles to go up the tube. Never mind,the hops overpower it after a split second,so drinkable at least. Must fit a tap to my FV to avoid the syphoning.

For more body,mash higher. I usually go for 69 for porters and stout.

Were you mashing with all 37 litres? For 6kg grain it would be assuming 2.5l per kg,15 litres mash water.
