Hi all.
I'm looking at giving a pale ale the very slightest hint of ginger and wondered, for those that have tried it, how much and at what point you introduced it to the brew and whether you use root or crystallised.
Cheers.

You could always cut an upper and lower hole in your burco and fit a sight glass kit and mark the tube with graduations.

The Maths Behind Heating Water
Hi all. Can anyone tell me if they know the formulae for calculating the size of a heating element to use in a HLT and Kettle. I'm sure there will be such a thing and I'd like to take some of the guesswork out of my build, I'm currently fitting a 3kw element to a 50 litre pot but I'm not sure it wil...

Re: That solar pump problem...
Where I work we have had an ongoing problem with seals leaking on our main wort pump to the kettle and following numerous seal changes we have been advised to use the top of the grade viton seals and the problem has been identified as the abrasive nature of the wort wearing out the seals. Having sai...

Re: How many kilowatts for a 50l boiler?
Insulation is your friend here. My 50 litre HLT will shift 45 litres of water from tap temp to 80 degrees in 30 mins, its insulated to death...you can put your hand on any part of the HLT when warming up and its no warmer than it is without the water in.. What have you used to insulate it and in pa...

Re: commercial beer kegs
There's no real reason why casks or kegs need to be discarded except for criminal reasons. Even if a brewery has gone bust there is usually a legit market for used casks with new start breweries. Personally I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole unless to inform the police and get their blessing to...

Re: Water Analysis at Murphy and sons
Well....... The Micro that I work for has its own chalk filtered borehole supply but we still send off samples now and again to Murphy's for analysis and although I only live 10 miles away, I will still be sending a sample away for my own home brewing purposes as my supply is through Yorkshire Water...

Good thread guys, I've been in the dark about these parameters too.
Just goes to show that what might at first sound like a bit of a daft question can bring the doubters like me out of the woodwork.

Bi carb is good for cleaning the odours from a plastic fridge lining so should work on other plastic.
I've got an ex chutney barrell to give this treatment to but I have noticed that left open to air makes the smell less pungent.

Re: PERFORATED PLATE FOR MASHING
There are plenty of offcuts of perforated SS sheet of various hole diameters on e-bay, I got a piece about 400 mm square for my false bottom.
