Re: Crisp Extra Pale Maris Otter
I know this is an old thread but timely it popped up as I just had a bag of it delivered. How are people finding it?

Re: Hop Growing 2017
Ko' Surprsied no-one has responded so for what it's worth I have a Prima Donna (First Gold) and a Northdown both in pots simply because we're renovating a property and haven't started on the garden as yet. This is the 2nd season they've been in pots. Managed 2.5lbs dried weight from the Northdown (...

Re: Hop Growing 2017
So I got a tiny crop from my first year Prima Donna plants which is okay wasn't expecting much... But what now? Mine are in large pots due to lack of garden space. What do people do just cut them back and leave them outside ready for next season. Will they be okay when the frosts arrive? I'm thinkin...

Re: Hop Growing 2017
Growing against the house is not to be advised. They suffer massively from windburn and heat from the brickwork. They are OK growing along fences but need a lot of training. I learnt this the hard way. First year growing for me... They started off brilliantly but in the last month or so have really...

Re: Fruity Friday!
Looks good, the colour is very deep. Fortunately it is not very muzzy, I am not a huge fan of muzzy beers. How it is with a fruity bouquet? The beer in the glass was the previous brew... I've only had one of this one so far, it's not quite ready. It's not bad by any stretch but I still haven't quit...

Re: Hop Growing 2017
Here's my First Gold. I think they're doing okay although this is the first year I tried growing hops so no point of reference.

Re: Is switching to Slopes realistic?
I gave IPAs method a go on the last brew. There's a very thick deposit of yeast at the bottom of my plastic bottle. Stupidly used a brown bottle so can't get a good pic, but looking good. Hoping to brew next week so will get getting a starter going soon Happy to say I used this yeast in yesterday's...

Fruity Friday!
This was last night... Well this certainly isn't ideal brewing weather with my crappy chiller but mourning the closure of my LHBS the only thing to do was get a brew on... This is an unashamed attempt at a fruity tropical pale ale. I've been experimenting with hopbursting the last couple of brews an...

Re: Cleaning bottles
I rinse bottles after use and store in a lidded "really useful box" (holds about 23 500ml bottles). Then on bottling day into the dishwasher on the highest heat setting, no tablet but do add a couple squirts of Milton steriliser. Once done they get a rinse with Starsan via a bottle washer and then o...

Re: Using my time more effectively...
I always used to start my brew on a weekend morning until the kids arrived. They're now 5 and 2 and what works for me is starting late afternoon. I work at home a couple of days a week so plan brew day for one of those, and finish early, usually 4...I find if i time it right i can still put the kids...

Re: Lallemand London ESB Premium Yeast
Sounds good. I've yet to use it myself (I'm a fan of WLP002) but reading through the thread it seems very potential - there aren't all that many dried choices for when only modest attenuation is wanted. It seems some people are trying to get low FGs with it but IMO that wouldn't really be expected ...

Re: Lallemand London ESB Premium Yeast
Just cracked open the first of my pale ales... It's actually cleared really well. Didn't bother with gelatin or any other finings in the end. And a nice pint to boot. Definitely has a bit of English character to it. I'm beginning to warm to this yeast...

Re: Lallemand London ESB Premium Yeast
I've done two brews with this yeast now, first a low ABV standard bitter, second a 4.5% Brewers Gold Pale Ale, and both have cleared very well without the need for excessive cold crashing or any finings at all. Just give it time to clear and it will. The Brewers Gold is tasting exceptionally fine a...
