Re: WHC Bond dead in the wort
I re-pitched the yeast yesterday into a Firkin Brewery Dogbolter clone and this morning it was fermenting well. My plan is to re-use it five times, from one brew to the next without making up a starter. So, one down and four to go.

Re: WHC Bond dead in the wort
I brewed on Saturday, pitched a 1 litre starter of Wyeast 1056 about 130pm. There was bubbles coming out of the blow off tube when I checked it at 930pm. The starter had been made on Monday, given 12 hours on a stir plate, 36 hours to ferment out and was put in the fridge to store on Wednesday unti...

Re: WHC Bond dead in the wort
Checked again and it has dropped another point. So two points in 48 hours. I would rather not take the lid off just yet to check the surface. I can see a bit through the sides as it is a plastic fermenter and see nothing as yet. Just suppose I had made a starter, would it have taken as long as this ...

Re: WHC Bond dead in the wort
I have just check it this morning. So after 43 hours it has made a tremendous leap down all of 1 point. But the temp has increased from 19.4 to 20c so it could be hotting up. It could also mean the Tilt I am relying on for monitoring is duff. I am not yet getting my hopes up because after so long it...

Re: WHC Bond dead in the wort
No I didn't make a starter because this particular brand of liquid yeast said you didn't need to. The batch size was 23L.
I have just checked it and still no activity. Temp 19.4. So that's 25 hours.

WHC Bond dead in the wort
I have just tried this new liquid yeast for the first time. The only instructions were to bring the yeast up to room temperature and throw it in. My recipe is a Barclay Perkins Best Stout, SG 1052. It has been nineteen hours and there is absolutely no activity and the temperature has dropped from a ...

Re: Tilt Hydro/Thermometer - anyone use one?
I have used a Tilt for 22 months off and on. The battery has just let me know that it is done. That is sixteen and a half three week brew lengths. I don't think that is too bad. I know about the doggy readings you get some times but I use it for monitoring change. It tells me when the primary fermen...

Re: Sodium Percarbonate
Thanks Kev. I looked up the meaning of the two terms and they are pentahydrate - bonded with 5 molecules of water and Andydrous is totally dry. So I think you are right that the pentahydrate would mix and dissolve quicker in water so I have ordered some. I checked current pricing and Redoka are stil...

Re: Sodium Percarbonate
Percarbonate will clean quite well by itself, especially whilst bubbling. However PBW is more sophisticated - it also includes sodium metasilicate, and I believe things to help reduce deposits of scale building up on equipment in hard water areas during longer soaks. Personally I buy both percarbon...

Re: Braumeister diseister!
I have down 31 brews and never had wort fountains as you had. I always take my time pouring in the grains and stir occasionally, giving the grains plenty of time to absorb the liquor. But I have not brewed a wheat beer. I bought some food grade Silicone Edging Strip To suit 2.0mm from Polymax Ltd to...

Re: Recipe with just Fuggles & EKG?
What about Titanic Lifeboat Ale from Graham Wheelers book page 146 of the 1998 edition? I am brewing that one next. Thanks, any more details on this as I don't have the book? I would if someone can tell me how to simply export the details from Beersmith in a form that can be shown on this forum. Th...

Re: Problem with repitching Slurry
I guess you have fermented right out, if you bottled the last batch, so the yeast will take a little while to wake up. You should see signs of fermentation at 24 hours (+/- 12 hours). So it could take up to 36 hours to show any real signs of life, amazing! Thanks. I forgot to mention that the yeast...

Problem with repitching Slurry
Well I have just had my first attempt at re-pitching slurry from my last brew yesterday. How long should it take to show clear signs of fermenting? I did a brew and bottle on the same day so the yeast slurry was just harvested from the fermenter into a serialized container and stored briefly on the ...
