Re: Filtering?

@Guy @IPA thanks gents for your tips, they are very helpful. good to have confirmation of what was likely the cause so i can address in the next brew. seems there were two things i did wrong - adding the finings to the FV and also leaving them to work for a couple of hours rather than a couple of da...

Re: Filtering?

I’ll have to give gelatine a try.
Was hoping aux finings + isinglass would be The silver bullet!

Re: Filtering?

Due to children and family schedule, i only got round to brewing and trying the dining tips above recently - has been 18months since my last brew - at least one small positive of staying home! So i tried using the auxillary finings (murphys) followed by isinglass a couple of hours later. All with re...

kh ind finished in Salifert kit

Hi all Bit of a long shot this, but here goes.. I used my salifert kit twice before. I came to retest my water today to find that there were only two drops left in the “kh ind” bottle! It a fairly inexpensive kit, but it is supposed to work for 100 tests! Anyway i can get a replacement for this liqu...

Re: Cheap Vac Pack?

I use a hand pump and an iron which seems to work pretty well! Males a good vacuum and packs the foil/material tightly. Only issue is that after some months, air seeps back in. I think its the vac bags i use rather than the seals the iron makes, since those look pretty solid. Others habe similar exp...

Re: Filtering?

@guy- Since the clarity of my beer was always good, i never looked fuether into finings (except for the irish moss which i already use), i didnt realise that finings also help to keep it stuck to the bottom! Clarity Is nice, bit of haze doeant bother me too muc, but i definitely dont like a yeasty t...

Re: Filtering?

Lot more to it than i thought, thanks for the tips. Want to keep things simple as poss, so i’ll try a longer cold crash, maybe upto 5 days. After that will experiment with gelatine. If that doesnt do it, i’ll look at kegs/force carb etc. @rookie- i normally leave in FV for 2 weeks before cold crashi...

Re: Filtering?

You’re just going to oxygenate the beer if you start using paper filters. If you want perfectly clear beer in a bottle you need to force carb in a keg and bottle from that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro Force carbing and centrifuging sound too tricky for me and would involve more gear whic...

Re: Filtering?

I’ll try a longer cold crash, i thought 2-3 days was plenty,
Will also try some filter paper.
On the BB tap, i already leave it at the top point.
For finings, i use a tbspoon of irish moss.
Suppose what id like is extremely little sediment

Filtering?

Hi guys I find the yeast at the bottom of my bottles of beer a nuisance and would like to minimise it as much as possible. My current routine involves crash cooling as cold as possible (1c) for 2-3 days then into the bottling bucket. I use a Brewbucket so quite good at not disturbing the trub. Howev...

Stc1000 problems

My stc temp probe has started playing up after some years of intermittent use. I usually put the probe in a glass of water in the brew fridge to stop temp reading fluctuating too quickly and stop cycling the fridge too much, but now it looks like the probe is corroding and it looks like the readings...
