Re: Cost comparison - kits and grain brewing
At the heart of your question is two approaches to brewing at home. The first is pride in making good beer with minimum cost on equipment and maybe lots of creativity. Often with kits but also with all grain. The other approach is more in line with nano breweries where the end result is variety of s...

Re: Rehydrating dried yeast
I always rehydrate dried yeast. With an 11gm packet I put in a sanitised bottle and add 250ml of 20c water. I leave for 15 mins for the yeast to start working and then add 250ml of wort and leave another 15 mins and the add to fermentor. 9 out of 10 times the yeast begins working immediately. I ferm...

I usually buy my pale malt in uncrushed 25kg sacks. I have tried all my usual suppliers and they are all out of stock though I can get 5kg bags. Anyone else come across this or am I just unfortunate? Surely not panic buying!

Re: Using ferm. fridge for salami?
Maybe for interest. I used my fermentation fridge set at 2c to dry age a rib of beef sealed with butter for 60 days. The result was incredible tender beef. No mould on the butter but probably not a good medium. Oh and I had a cheep usb fan circulating air.

Demise of Hop and Grape

Re: Milk stout
Can I ask, what's the reasoning for adding lactose in the middle of the boil rather than the beginning?

Re: Dry hopping in the keg after force carbing?
I'm puzzled. How do you stop the beer foaming when you take the keg lid off or do you have to be very quick?

Re: Grain spilling out after mash
It's happened to me! If I remember right I didn't press the button to acknowledge that the mash had ended so the pump continued to work. Luckily I hit the button before losing grain over the side.

Re: Beer bottle labels
Beerlabelizer website for the labels, print them off, cut out, stick on with milk. Works great and simply washes off with hot water. Marvellous!
