Kegging advice
I am a returning to brewing after many years. I am trying to make a decision about how I intend to dispense my beer. I have a Beermonster machine which is the same as the Klarstein Skal machine (pictured below). But I have empty kegs available. IMG_8756.jpg Empty kegs would cost approximately £40 po...

Saflager W-34/70
My question is one I know the answer to, however: I am planning to brew tomorrow using Saflager W34/70 and was intending on fermenting at the higher end of its range. I had (wrongly assumed (I know what assuming does)) that one pack would be sufficient for a 21 litre batch however on checking the pa...

Cocoa nibs
Grr just bottled beer after 10 days dry nibbing. Tastes good. Only problem is a rookie mistake. Only checked the ph of my starsan after I finished bottling and it's a bit higher than the instructions (around 4). Hopefully the weak starsan and the alcohol in the beer will prevent infection or I will ...

Re: Cocoa nibs
Have decided to dry hop with the nibs as it is the easiest option. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Re: Cocoa nibs
Hmm as I don't fancy stirring like mad I may try to add them as a dry addition. I still might change my mind though.

Cocoa nibs
Hi.
Today i am brewing a chocolate stout which will hopefully be ready for Christmas. I have got cocoa nibs but I am unsure whether to add them to the boil or as a dry addition during fermentation. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Filter advice
Thanks. Actually now you mention your voile filter I do have a new sink sieve I could sanitise and use to catch anything coming out the tap then tip to minimise dead space.

Filter advice
Hi. Effectively been lurking on here for a while. I have recently started all grain brewing and am planning to do my fourth batch tomorrow. The boiler I have has a hop filter which is effectively a piece of copper pipe which is pushed into the back of a plastic tea urn tap. In the last three boils t...

Re: Fermentation fridge
Thanks. Will look into sourcing a fan. Hopefully temperature controlled brewing will be a significant improvement.

Fermentation fridge
I am in the process of putting together a fermentation fridge and have ordered an STC1000. I already have a cheap apparently 80W heat belt and am wondering if this would be sufficient as my heat source or should I get a tubular heater. My fridge will in the beginning at least be stored in a garage. ...

Re: First extract brew
Thanks for the reply. Will try siphoning this time round. Might look to purchase a big sieve to go over the fermenter next time if siphoning turns out to be a pain.

First extract brew
I am planning to do my first extract brew this weekend and although I have a decent idea of the process I still have a couple of questions. Sorry if they have been asked before. 1) I am planning to boil my hops in muslin bags. Does this have any effect on the amount of flavour extracted from the hop...
