Re: noob question on cornies
I agree with MTW. Cornies, like bottom tap King Kegs, pull beer from the very bottom , which is where any crud will be so you'll have the same issue. In fact cornies have long stainless steel dip tubes that touch the very bottom (so i cut 1cm off the end of mine) so even more chance to pull up crud....

BES are excellent too though the well known UK brewing suppliers have better stainless steel fittings from China now.

Re: Immersion chiller or plate chiller?
I used both a homemade IC and plate chiller and just use PC now. In my opinion IC's are cheap and easy to make and use/ clean but I did wonder about why my copper 10mm IC went in one colour and came out shiny. That oxidised copper was now in my beer so I looked at stainless IC and that's a serious l...

Re: Is this a probe or a controller problem?
I bought a second probe recently for my set up and first calibrated the digital thermometer at 0C with 60% crushed ice and 40% water to find it spot on so assumed it would be the most accurate. Then I checked my original probe with my PID which read 3 degrees too high and my new probe which was a fe...

Re: Polsinelli Stuff
I have a couple of the Europa model welded tanks in 50l from Sansone and love them for their ease of cleaning and solid build. The Sansone tap is actually really useful for when you want to take gravity readings without having to undo the lid and potentially let in any beasties. Got mine 2nd hand an...

Re: 2.4 KW Element Fault ?
Thank you. Perfect timing as a secondhand HLT I bought earlier in the year has cheap kettle elements that melt Maplin hot condition lead connectors after barely an hour. Think I won't dare using them again and source a low density element and a new lead. That'll be 7 holes in my HLT now and yet anot...

Re: My 1st brew fridge
+1 on slats to let the air flow. You've got the shelf side supports moulded into the fridge sides already so I would run a slat front to back on either side to transfer the weight evenly and then 5 or so slats on top of those 2 going across. I bought a fan but haven't wired it in yet as the beer tas...

Re: Fridge
Doubt it, to be honest unless you can dismantle the freezer section door, floor and drop tray to make enough space for a fermentation vessel, but the freezer section might also provide extra chilling to the lower section via the sides and or back of that freezer section. Depends on your proposed FV ...

Re: SmartPID - smart temperature controller
Very excited about this, for lots of reasons; as mentioned above data logging, remote connectivity and control and multiple devices at once, and the GUI looks cool too. Would love to see the relays upgraded from 10A to 20A so they could drive 3Kw (@230-240V = c.13A) heating elements directly- my cur...

Mine are OK
I've had 6 from these guys- a few immaculate and others pretty battered and dinged. For the price delivered I think they're great. I learnt a few lessons which tried my patience: New lid seals are cheap, the seals mine came with, no matter what i did, still smelt of coke or lemonade syrup so i just ...

I used 4mm ID 6mm OD silicon hose on mine and cable ties on the reg. I do have to thank ironblue for opening my eyes. His attenton to detail is amazing and I tried some of his great brews.

Re: Easy O2 Rig
That ironblue is Bealzebub in disguise. There I was just looking to upgrade my fermenters with his old 50l ones and he invites me into Shiny World and his shed of heaven and I was addicted. No point having 50l fermenters without a 70l shiny kettle. Not much point having a big kettle without a shiny ...

+1 for Compton Gas. Prices as you said and 5 mins off M1. I had phoned around so many places who did not want to supply non trade or £55 deposit so Gary saved the day.
Next task is sourcing the reg for my cornie!
