Re: Adding coffee to a porter
I too brewed a breakfast stout, I put in 50 g (ground stuff) right at the end of the boil, I also put some cold steeped 40g in 1/2 lt in the Fr. As a well as coco nibs. I’d say it was a bit to coffeefide, but after the first one it taste good @ 8.5% abv Cold steeping is meant to be a smoother taste/...

Re: Out of date LME
Bit late replying, but beer is beer when times are hard. Good or bad..I’m not the person throw or chuck just cos of a bbe date.. anyhow, I’d use it in what ever I was brewing as a use it up thing, but I would make sure it gets to a boiling point.. just to kill off any clingers.

I've seen it in a bag in a homebrew shop, asked the guy and he said, it's all the all you have to do is mash the grain and the boil the wort... I thought wtf..and that's it. I to would like to know the benefits of mash hops. I understand first wort hops and it works nicely..

Re: Immersion chiller, think ill go back to no chill
I do slow flow at first, it gets me hot water into a cooler for later cleaning duties. Then faster into the fv, for warmer water to wash the fv with oxi/washing soda. Then just turn it up and allow wort to cool, with the added agitation of wort with the IC (stoping stratification) it works ok for me...

Or you could split off a gallon or less in to a DJ and dry hop that, then you will wish you had done the whole batch or glad you only done a gallon
