Wild hops
Found a lot of wild hops in a local park. I don't have time to brew but want to use them. I have a Golden Ale kit from Wilko, could I bring that to the boil with 5 l water, and 1.5kg of dme, and add the hops for a 10 minute and 5 minute boil and then strain into a fermenter? Top up with 15l of cold ...

Re: AG#29 - Summer Ale
MB - brewed this today. Smelt great. I still can't get decent efficiency on my gf. Ended up with 24l at 1036. Added 500g sugar to give a slight boost.

Re: Wilco Dark Velvet Stout
N worries, glad to have helped. Up to you about the 50/50 split. I would personally go all spray malt if I was to do this brew again, but that is personal preference. If you want body, perhaps go all spray malt if you intend to brew to 22l?
Hope this helps

Re: Wilco Dark Velvet Stout
Not really. It is an ok kit. I would really use 1kg of spray malt (don't skimp and use sugar) and brew short to 20l. I made the mistake of using sugar with this kit and using beer kit enhancer and it was ok, took a long time to be even passable and I still have some bottles left that nobody really w...

I agree Jim. I did a little search, and it seems only one place sells this stuff. No reviews of the product.

Re: Speeding up the process!!! (FERMENTING-DRINKING)
Hi. I have very recently brewed this. I brewed four weeks ago and bottled two weeks ago. Tastes very good already. Tasted good after two weeks in the FV. I would dry hop as soon as gravity is low. The dry hops may help to mask off flavours as well from no conditioning time.

Co2 - food grade
Recently purchased some of the mini kegs that have a mini co2 regulator and they take a threaded co2 bulb. Does Co2 need to be good grade? Are there any risks with using those that aren't?
Thanks

Brilliant write up MB. I love my Grainfather, it has reignited my spark for brewing and makes me want to brew regularly.

Re: Crossmyloof yeast
Got a batch of Old Peculiar clone on the go at the moment using CML's Real Ale yeast. An odd criticism perhaps but I feel this yeast is unacceptably vigorous!! I expect a Belgian wit yeast to be leaping out of the fermenter (especially at wit fermentation temperatures with wheat in the grain bill) ...

Re: Fruit wheat beer
Hi Dean, I think that Raspberry would probably be a safe bet. It is also readily available in frozen form for you to use. From memory I used about 2.5kg of Frozen Fruit (I used summer fruit mix). Using Summer Fruit mix meant that it was fruity but it was also quite tart to begin with. People liked i...

Re: Over sugared the brew
Jim, you could also buy the 5L water bottles from the shops. They are sterile, so you can drink the water, pour in the fruit juice and then add your yeast. That way you could brew more than just 1l a time.

Re: Putting together a temperature controlled fridge
I just asked the it department at work for a couple of fans from old computers. 240V fans? I power my stir plate computer fan with an old phone charger. In all honesty I have no idea. I had just seen YouTube videos of people using them so asked the it department. They weren’t really that bothered a...

Re: Putting together a temperature controlled fridge
Same as above. Just tape it to the side of the FV. I would invest in a tube heater and a small pc fan. That was you can ensure temp is maintained . My tube heater was something like £10 from eBay. And I just asked the it department at work for a couple of fans from old computers.
