Press builds
My press ends up crippling me after making about 5 gallon. Frozen shoulder and bloody annoyed. So i'm looking at building a press. Im thinking of adapting a hydraulic press to into a rack and cloth press. Presses similar to these: https://www.gumtree.com/other-power-tools/uk/hydraulic+press Anyone e...

Re: oh oh
My FV has a grommet in the top. I had a look at it and it had got what looked like a lacto film . Sterilised a spoon and and gave it a stir, lots of fizz came up. Are cider yeasts bottom fermenters?

Re: Solera!
Yeah I had one going for about 4-5 years. I had mine in a corny keg and would pull off 1/2 the keg each year and top it off with the new batch. Oh, and I was doing an Oud Bruin; the beer was pretty good. One word of warning though, if you use a keg like I did you need to remember to vent the excess...

Solera!
Hiya, Thinking of doing a solera with a brown ale, aged with brett and sour for a year. In a 5 gallon glass carboy. I intend to draw 3 gallon off and sit on fruit, carbonate and drink or whatever, then top up the carboy with more brown ale, or maybe blend it with pale ale. So has anyone else done a ...

Re: Lambic/sour
If you're getting those nasty whiffs from your starter id ditch it, Defo check out mad fermentationist website, the hard work for which are the best to culture from dregs is all done. As for your 1st question i concur with Wilf, use an ale yeast with mid attenuation to ferment originally and the pit...

Re: Wit flaked or raw wheat confusion
I was in my local home brew store getting ingredients for my next project which will be a Munich Helles. While there, the owner was telling me that he had obtained a bunch of Lemmon Drop hops which I have never used. Being essentially weak and highly impressionable, I, on a whim, purchased some jus...

Re: Wit flaked or raw wheat confusion
Ah so its an american wheat? Goose island website says malts are 2 row and torrified wheat. So maybe looking at maybe 25 wheat malt/25 torrified or flaked/50 pale malt and some cascade type hops. I be the yeast they use isn't a wit. IPA, do you think your delicious wit recipe would be good for some ...

Re: Wit flaked or raw wheat confusion
So I'm going to brew a wit, kind of like the goose island 312 american wit, thats no coriander, orange peel etc, but hopped with cascade late in the boil. Ive looked at recipes and seem to see all sorts of stuff going on, particularly about flaked or raw wheat. So whats other people used with succe...
