Re: Bad salts

I doubt if any of them are out of date. The dates marked are pretty arbitrary. If they have been stored well they will be fine.

Re: Is switching to Slopes realistic?

As well as the Brewlab slants there's also Wyeast and White Labs liquid yeast which are easier to use as they come in pitchable quantities or need a small starter. For these starters the shaken not stirred method means you don't need a stir plate. You can use the yeast for several brews by either to...

Re: Philips perfectdraft

Since this is a home brew forum I don't suppose many people here have bought the kegs and so can't answer your question. It seems to be a very expensive way to buy beer though.

Re: Polypin / bag in a box with hand pump

I used to use polypins with a hand pump. It worked fine but the beer was starting to oxidise after a few weeks. It certainly wouldn't last 2 months. I now use Sankey kegs at low pressure.

Re: 1 Gallon Brew

I'd leave it alone. When I've done 1 gallon brews there has always been relatively more trub than when doing 20L. When you bottle you can leave it all behind.

Re: What to do when your mash is too efficient?

I've had my gravity go down during the boil! Of course, this was due to a bad reading. Denser wort sinks and so drawing a sample from the tap can give a high reading. With BIAB there is no transfer from mash tun to boiler to mix up the wort. However, readings after the boil ought to be accurate sinc...

After almost 10 years of homebrewing, I've finally decided that I'd like a kegerator in my brewery. For this, I need corny kegs!
Corny kegs are not the only option. Many of us use Sankey kegs such as those from Crusader.

Re: Wort or beer?

It's often said that wort becomes beer the moment yeast is added. I think this may be a legal definition, but I'm not sure where.

If you have to ask these questions about electricity then you should get a professional in. But on what basis can you say that an insurance company wouldn't pay out?

Doesn't a creamer need a high pressure from nitrogen to work?

Re: Beer engine

I used to use my beer engine with polypins. It works well provided you drink all the beer within about 4 weeks. The polypins let oxygen through so the beer goes off. I now use Sankey kegs with the beer engine.

For kegs there's also the option of Sankey kegs.

Re: Measuring AA% for home grown hops

I'd say don't bother. Use a purchased hop with known AA% for bittering and use your hops for flavour and aroma.
