Re: RIS Fermentation issues
Just an update on the RIS, well after the slow start it's still fermenting but has slowed considerably. Took a gravity reading this morning and I have it at 1012, there are no adverse smells and it tastes good, smooth, warming with a hint of chocolate. AVB 8.9%, My only concerns are how long should I...

Re: What would you do - set up recommendations
John, I understand where you're coming from, I am also at a similar stage. I currently brew with a 50 litres BIAB set up using a gas burner, but due to the time it takes to complete a brew and the space all the equipment takes up I have decided to go to a Grainfather. When you look around there is l...

Re: RIS Fermentation issues
Cheers Kev, never used the Wyeast smack packs before and will bear that in mind. I tend to use a dry yeast, rehydrating it before pitching so I see the there is activity. The great thing about this hobby you are always learning and there are great forums like Jim's were there is so much experience a...

Re: RIS Fermentation issues
Gave it a bit of a stir and it started fermenting so thanks very much for the advice. Fingers crossed it will now ferment out.

Re: RIS Fermentation issues
The size of this brew is 21 litres, the yeast was in date but unfortunately packaging is deep in the bin so I can't tell the exact use by date. It is still inactive so off to the LHBS in the morning to get some new yeast, it's been suggested to try Safale S-04 and possibly use two packs to get it go...

RIS Fermentation issues
Yesterday I brewed a BIAB RIS from the Greg Hughes brew book and hit the starting gravity of 1080. Having transferred it into the FV I added a Wyeast London ale yeast smack pack. It's been 24 hrs and still no activity from the airlock, any suggestions? As I'm concerned I have placed the FV on a heat...

BIAB & Beersmith
Having now completed 6 BIAB as well as a number of kit brews, I now want to devote more time and effort to all grain BIAB brews next year. I have just ordered ingredients for a couple of brews from the Greg Hughes book, but after I have completed these I want to experiment a bit more. To this end ha...

Re: False bottom
I got a pizza tray from Wilkos £2, some stainless steel nuts and bolts from eBay total about £7 to use in my 50 litres pot. Works great and keeps the bag from getting burnt.

Re: Brewferm first kit
Hi, Newbrew1, you certainly have picked some great Brewferm kits. I'm a regular Brewer of these kits, my favourite being the Grand Cru kit, the Abdji and Triple are close. The only downside is the wait, but it's worth it. I just done a Triple using a Safbrew abbaye yeast to see if it brings any chan...

Danny, I got mine from the Runcorn hydroponics centre. £25, no deposit. That was March this year.

Re: Belgian beer kit?
I would say that Brewferm Grand Cru, is close, and they are good quality kits. Also the Triple and Diabolo kits are worth a go.

Re: Brewferm - which to try?
Have you done a Grand Cru b4 Orval62?What style is it? This is my 2nd batch of Grand Cru, the first was brewed in February this year, made with white candy sugar. Similar taste to Duval but a bit darker in colour, my best BrewFerm kit to date. I am trying to build up a stock of Brewferm Belgium bee...

Re: Brewferm - which to try?
Just bottled a Grand Cru, which is conditioning. Two weeks prior I put my bottled Diabolo in the garage now the wait begins. I also have the Triple and Ambiorix to do, hopefully before Xmas. As you can see I'm a fan of the Brewferm kits. Touch wood not had a bad one yet..

Re: Two Coopers Kits one busy Sunday
Brewed the Coopers Australian pale ale with Cascade hops and was very surprised at how good it turned out. So much so it didn't last long. Got another can when Tesco had its last sale.

Re: Young's New World Saison
Thanks for the info dbg400, not much about it on the forums. I enjoy this style of beer so fingers crossed it will turn out good. How long did you have to leave it before drinking?
