Re: Steel electric brewing kettles

I've been building my new setup and although I've gone a bit OTT and bought 2 new SS Brewtech pots I was able to get two Buffalo induction hobs for just over £100. One from ebay for £65 which was actually faulty when I bought it but was repaired with a £2 replacement fan from China and the other rec...

Re: Sparging ?

Re: Cheshire Brew Crew

We're back! Well, to be honest we were never away, I just had no time whatsoever to post online about the club and what we were doing! Or next meetup is January 31st at Cellar Bar, Chester. 7:30pm start if you want to come down! It'll be the usual brew tasting session but with the added excitement o...

Re: Brewery Scaling?

Alexa, Define `Aliquots` please. Ah, got it, thank you Alexa. MrsAles thinks I am mad saying `Please` and `Thank You` to Alexa. :D :D WA Sent from my Sofa. Ok... you lost me WA! Anyhoo... think I'm going to settle for 3x 38.5l vessels. A larger Mashtun gives me lots of range for high ABV beers and ...

Re: Brewery Scaling?

Thanks all. To answer the questions about why I'm selling the Grainfather, I want to move back to 3vessels because it's a little more involved during the brewday and feels a bit more like a 'proper' brewery. Don't get me wrong, the grainfather is a good bit of kit, and was exactly what I needed to k...

Brewery Scaling?

So I'm now able to start buying/building my 3rd brewery but unfortunately because I've been spoiled with the out-of-the-box setup of the Grainfather I've forgotten the ratios for pot sizes! I am aiming to get a 38.5l Mash Tun from another JBK user so the first question is... 1) Are 56l HLT and Kettl...

Re: Induction Hobs

Thanks for the info folks. I guess my main thinking behind the Heavy Duty hob was the weight of the pot when full. By the sounds of it the normal, cheaper unit is strong enough to hold the weight and powerful enough to hit a rolling boil so ticks both boxes. Equally i'm not adverse to wrapping the p...

Induction Hobs

I'm making the move towards induction hobs on my new setup but have hit a query regarding which model is most suitable... Buffalo make a 3000W hob (model CE208) and a Heavy Duty 3000W Hob (CP799). I'll be using these with 10 USg/35l pots. What would be really useful to me is first hand experience us...

I use a shelf support attached to the wall then slide the cooler onto it.

Re: Brew Con London - A Home Brewing Conference and Expo

At least with it being on one day we avoid having to get a hotel on Saturday night... my hotel (Travel Lodge) on Sunday is £39... to stay Saturday too would have been an extra £130!!!

Re: Kettle Souring... Failing!

I have a 100% record (so far) for sour beers... granted that's 1 for 1 but still... 100% I'd mirror what others have said already, 40C seems way too high for the souring process, I kettle soured my gose with Omega's Lacto strain at 28C for 3 days. PH was 4.6 ish to start and 3.something to finish. T...

Re: BM owners (and GF / aio owners) would you go back?

then there's a third thing, which is the love of the craft of brewing itself. i don't get that from the BM. it bores me. it takes the fun out. sure i can do other stuff at the same time which is handy, but it hasn't taught me anything about the process or science of brewing. i miss my old rigs and ...
