Re: Dry Hopping With Pellets - In PB
I find the best way to deal with pellets dry hopping is to crash cool. This seems the best method, certainly for me, that ensures the racked beer is clear and free of hops/debris. +1 for this method. I add the dry pellets to the fermenter after about 5-7 days, leave it at fermenting temp for anothe...

Re: CO2 pipe
Found the post about the burst Silicone pipe Jocky.
Went with THIS in the end. Works well and doesn't smell of plastic.

Re: CO2 pipe
Thanks Jocky. It’s not the bending of the beer line, it’s the general ease of handling in confined spaces. I’ll have a search for the burst hose post and see what pressures were involved.

CO2 pipe
I’ve just converted a fridge for storing kegs and need some nice flexible 6mm bore pipe for Co2. I used the normal beer line in my last fridge but it’s too stiff. I ordered PVC food grade pipe but it smells bad so I don’t want to use it. Anybody use silicone pipe for Co2?? The right wall thickness w...

Re: Hop pellet filter
IMG_2464.JPG This is what i used in my old 50l boiler. A 60 grade mesh with a large surface area. The wort is picked up at the bottom of the boiler similar in design to Brewbuilders design. I have used 400g of pellet hops using this filter which will slow the run off towards the end but it did the ...

Re: (Not quite) 1837 IPA
I'm very much viewing this as a cheap experiment. Old hops, harvested yeast and £3.20 worth of grain. During our talk by Ron, he talked about how 1800s breweries stored hops for years and used hops other than uk varieties, to deal with shortages during bad harvests, so they weren't always brewing w...

Re: (Not quite) 1837 IPA
To be brutally honest, I would bin the hops and go with a cheaper UK single hop like Goldings or Fuggles (or maybe both) IMO If you're going to invest the time to brew and age, it's better to start with decent ingredients. Even though the hops are full boil, there's still lots of flavour & aroma if ...

Re: Bit of help with pumping wort into an FV please
Thanks Mark. I considered the solar pumps initially but decided to go with higher flow rate pumps. I've changed my mind on the pump choice after looking at THIS and gone back to the stainless steel TD5........very quiet.

Re: Does anybody recirc with a plate chiller?
Thanks to all for the info. I've decided to go with a fairly big 210KW plate chiller for my 50l final volume brews and see how it goes. I will keep hold of my IC so If the PC doesent work for me, I'll go back to my previous choice which was whirlpool cooling with an IC. When I've given the PC a damn...
