I will be using bramling cross for the 1st time tomorrow in a pale ale/ bitter along with 50g EKG I opened last weekend. I used 500g of that exact malt in a porter (my second AG brew) and it had a nice hint of it but not that much but the darker grains likely overpowered it, I can't comment any further as I cannot imagine a very smokey beer but wish you luck and hope this helped at least slightly.

I added 50g to a 23l batch recently and you could really taste it was there despite the small quantity. Sorry have little other experience of it other than in a porter.

Thanks guys amazed how many fast responses there are. The reason I don't top up before the 1st draining is my mash tun is to small (I have a few times when doing under 3.5% ABV brews). I have been vorlaufing though I have never heard the word before. Anyway thanks again you have confirmed in my mind...
