Re: Advice needed on PID and ssr for 5500w element

I don't know much about PID controllers but for the HLT using a standard immersion element and its built in thermostat turned on the day before should work well as a cheaper option. I would think 1 5.5Kw element would keep about the correct rolling boil on that size without the need for any control,...

Re: Brite Tank Cooling with Maxi 110

My understanding (possibly wrong) is it needs the python pump on to stop the water freezing to much, ie if the pump doesn't come on the water could all turn to ice and the pump keeps it moving to stop it. Also I used a maxi 210 to control the temp on a 200l fermenter and it was fine and could crash ...

Re: Kw to boil 100 litres

I briefly half owned a 1BBL brewery and the 200l very well insulated boiler had 2 x 3Kw elements only 1 was needed to hold a rolling boil but even with 2 it took ages to get there.

Re: Selling Beer Brewed in UK Residence Locally

Happy to answer questions on this - I've been running a 240L nano brewery commercially for a couple of years. I've had a lot of fun doing it, won some local awards etc, run bars at community events and sold casks to local pubs, but I'm packing it in because the admin is too much for me and it doesn...

Re: Selling Beer Brewed in UK Residence Locally

Registering with HMR C for the brewery will be fine as your basically applying to pay tax. Where you will have problems is the council as you should have B2 planning for a brewery and A4 for a pub and a premises license to sell alcohol and Its unlikely you will get any on these on a residential prop...

Re: Anyone Used These 1.5kw Elements?

I have used those elements for most people a £5 kettle element would be better but if spot on 3Kw is what you want 2 of them should be perfect. They fit the same hole as standard elements I think 38mm of the top of my head I don't think they come with a seal but your old ones should be fine or buy a...

This is a bit cheaper https://www.screwfix.com/p/flofit-pe-x- ... hite/54479 if you making a counter flow chiller I have found you can drill out john guest reducing T's and they work.

Just wondering why you don't just use the line chiller as a line chiller?

Re: Energy use with electric elements

If you go to brew builder is doesn't cost to much more or if you get it made by brewbulider and fit £5 kettle elements its cheaper.

Re: Energy use with electric elements

A 2.4Kw element will use 2.4Kwh every hour its on so yes 31.4p per hour its on and £1.25 if its on for 4 hours. 1 element will heat up 20l no problem but 2 will do it much quicker. Gas is generally much cheaper to heat on but on a gas burner much more of the heat is lost compared to an element in th...

Re: New 200L setup how does this sound?

Thanks again the fischer flat bottom tanks are around £1 per L but thats only slightly cheaper than the coned bottom ones same issue with the bridgewater ones. Nothing on ebay that looks amazing at the moment but I have a while to keep an eye out. If I buy ready to go fermenters these look like a go...

Re: New 200L setup how does this sound?

Thanks for the reply. I have not thought about underletting or the possibility of a grant but will look into them both. The boiler will use a lid with a chimney for steam extraction and will consider a condenser to use the water for starsan. I was planning to use coils likely the ones from brew buil...
