Re: Priming sugar in a polypin for beer engine?
I batch prime and mix pins and bottles, I keep the pins "tap up" for a few days and let the pressure out when they blow up like footballs, then gently turn them "tap front" and leave them to condition normally.

Re: I'm after a grain mill
Only issue I have had with mine is when I switched to using a drill the torque was too much for the finger tight roller bolts to keep the roller still - quick tweak with a adjustable spanner sorted that though.

Re: Buffalo induction - max brewlength it could handle?
I use the SS BrewTech 20 gallon (75 litre) pot on mine without issue, other than it looking a bit daft

Re: STC1000 Hacking
I'm a bit late to this, I just got one delivered yesterday. I keep reading back and fourth, I can't follow this. It looks really different layout and has WR-032, 2014/12/10 on the main board. although it does have those 5 holes for progaming I can post a pic or 2 if anyone can help me suss it out T...

Re: buffalo boiler
Saflager W-34/70 is a dried yeast IIRC so you don't make a starter, just rehydrate it. If you're going to use liquid yeast then you definitely need a starter for lagers because of the cold temperatures.
Personally I wouldn't bother with a stir plate, just makes it harder to pitch at high krausen.

Re: Vimto Wine
I've made this with other no added sugar juice drinks and it all ended up going down the sink - the flavour in the juice is very subtle, and you end up with more yeasty flavours than fruit/wine flavours. Made multiple batches to double check it wasn't just a bad batch, each with a different juice, a...

Re: buffalo boiler
Nice one - my buffalo has never needed any tweaking - I guess the new ones err a bit more on the side of caution. As for your next brew, do you have temperature control for your FV for lagering? I know you have a freezer setup for your kegs, but you need to have temperature control on the fermentati...

Re: Maxi Cooler - Thermostat
I'm not sure it is adjustable, mine gets much colder than that and seems to maintain the temperature without much effort - your one looks quite different to mine though, I don't have the white block at the back, and the pump/agitator looks very different, yours is a lot smaller.

Re: Shelf life of beer in a corny keg
Local home brew shop found an old cornie with a porter in that'd been there for 8-10 years (IIRC) and they drank it without any problems.. if it's protected with co2 and doesn't leak you should be fine for a good while, although I'd imagine a lighter hoppier beer would suffer more than a robust port...

Re: thermawrap or sleeping bag
As long as you keep it clear of the bottom couple of inches you should be fine with thermawrap on the pot with the flame on, you could always wrap the bottom bit with flame retardant tape - it does make a big difference to heat up time if you insulate the pot.

Re: thermawrap or sleeping bag
Having something on while its heating up is pretty much the point, unless you're doing BIAB, as the insulation helps speed things up when heating. If it's just BIAB you're worried about then you don't need anything fancy, just shove a load of towels over it - removable thermawrap for that is overkil...

No, I use induction - you probably don't want to be setting it on fire if you use gas

Re: thermawrap or sleeping bag
I use thermawrap, I have it on permanently and stuck it to itself with thermawrap metal tape (more for the look of it than anything), you can also use velcro strips though if you need to take it off - I've never had the need to.

I subscribe to BYO magazine ( https://byo.com/ ) not sure if that's what you mean - it's an American mag, but they show all the measurements in non-insane format too
