Re: Yeast for AG Wherry?
Hi Seymour, it's been a long time since I've been on this forum but got the notice so thought I'd reply.
I actually ended up using Muntons Premium Gold and it tasted great. TBH I (and others who tried it) thought it was 'almost' a clone of the original we tasted on tap in Norfolk.

Re: Post boil hop additions: best practice??
How about a combo of A & C? Add some hops at flameout, chill slowly to ~80C add more hops and steep for ~20-30mins then chill all the way down to pitching temp. Sounds good to me as I've done it several times before and the results tasted great

Re: Damson Stout
Thanks for the replies chaps. I I don't think it matters much which yeast you use. You're not going to taste it. Use S-04 I'd have to disagree (but in a nice way  ). I used to think the same thing about stouts but I've made Oatmeal stout a few times now using exactly the same ingredients\metho...

Re: Where do you guys normally get your elements?
Hi Graham, not sure about the lead you've got there as the standard kettle lead certainly does have the cut out on the moulding - the sort that costs nearly £6 to be used in a £5 kettle  As for the elements, Kev's right, the 2.4Kw use the kettle lead that looks like yours, the 2.75Kw elemen...

NO on German Ebay
NO on French Ebay
Just keep checking them as they do come up now and again. Or you could just contact them directly - use the contact seller link.

Re: Bobek Pale Ale
If i tied a piece of muslin around the plastic moulded end, do you reckon that would do the job and stop most of the hops getting through? Anyone got any other suggestions? That would work but it may get gummed up. How a about some steel gauze - you could stuff it in the moulded part or perhaps a p...

Re: Where do you guys normally get your elements?
Hi jolum, which element did you purchase, the haden or the copper immersion(what size) Did your elements come with any washers/backnuts to help fix in place. Would the C15 leads kev talks about fit the back of both these elements. What size cutter did you use for the elements.I assume you used the NO...

Damson Stout
I currently have 7.5Kg of strained damson pulp sitting in the freezer. I'm going to stick them in a Stout but haven't decided on how much fruit per gallon and what yeast to use. The recipe will be something like this (from BE), it's based on the Oatmeal Stout I've made a few times now. Damson Stout ...

Re: Fruit Beer using Rasberry Concentrate
I haven't actually tried it yet but I have designs on a strawberry wheat beer in the next couple of months. I was listening to an interview with Randy Mosher on Basic Brewing Radio where he stated that strawberries made very poor beer. Not that I'm trying to put you off or anything - I'd probably t...

Re: Where do you guys normally get your elements?
Many people get along with the cheapo jug-kettle elements fine - but there is a bit of electric alteration needed with some varieties and, as has been mentioned, a bit of mechanical fiddling to adapt them. If you're uncomfortable with electricity and/or you wanted something off the shelf to screw i...

Re: Where do you guys normally get your elements?
I've got some lovely 2.75Kw elements from The Heating Element Company . I've also used a couple of Asda value kettle elements on a plastic HLT. And I second what's been said about the seal, they work great on a plastic tub but I wouldn't trust them on SS unless the wall thickness is at least 3mm - I...

Re: American Pale Ale - Yeast recommendation please.
I'm planning an APA at the minute and trying to decide what yeast to use. I've used S05 recently with rubbish results: It fermented down to 1005 and I had clarity problems. That's strange, I used US-05 in a Bishop's Farewell a while back and it behaved itself nicely, lovely hop aroma came through a...

Re: Bobek Pale Ale
Mouthfeel, that old chestnut :D More unfermentables in your grain bill and a higher mash temp would be a good place to start but keep in mind that you have to keep a balance between sweetness and bitterness. I'm sure others will be along with more suggestions shortly. Btw, the biggest mouthfeel I've...

Re: Barrels - OK I give up
Hi Baccus, Sorry to hear you've had such arse-ache with the budget barrels. I've got cornies, KK and budgets and use them all - you can't have enough storage space :) Anyway, I'd listen to techtone, what he's saying is dead on about the seal, the only thing I'd add is although you want to keep the V...
