Re: Taps that mount directly on AEB keg

I have not had any problem with my existing tap mounted directly on the outlet disconnect - I can dispense fizzy pilsner at 15 psi without foam. Is there a reason why I should be running beer down a pipe before it enters the tap? I can see reference to needing a few metres of pipe to create resistan...

Taps that mount directly on AEB keg

I have one unbranded keg that does not have a rubber top - easy to fit a tap that is screwed straight onto the disconnect. I'm thinking of getting an AEB keg with the rubber top - can I mount the tap in the way that I do now (it looks to me that the rubber will get in the way and I'll need to attach...

Re: “Home Brew” taste

I had not made a kit in 25 years until lockdown came and I could not get malt and tI faced he prospect of no booze in the house. After years of good all grain brewing, I reverted back to a kit (Coopers Irish Stout). I did not realise that the "kit" needed spray malt - so I did a small mash with some...

Dry hopping with saaz

Has anyone used saaz for dry hopping? I have a Galaxy hopped "pilsner" underway. So far, 100% Galaxy and the aroma at the end of fermentation is almost over powering apricot/fruit - I'm worried that it will be too "New World" punchy and I'm thinking of replacing my Galaxy dry hop plan with an equiva...

Re: S30 inner O ring - size?

I have now measured up from my small collection of worn but original versions. I'm confident that the ring is an 8mm inner, 12mm outer black nitrile job. The neck diameter on CO2 bulbs is 8.5mm - so just enough overlap for a tight seal. 18p each at accu.co.uk

S30 inner O ring - size?

i have just bought some rather expensive O ring replacements that are the wrong size - the inner diameter is too small. I wondered if it was my valve that was out of date of a different size variant. However, on checking, the new O rings have an inner diameter that is bigger than the neck of both th...

Thanks for this - oats in a pale beer sounds like a challenge.

Hop House 13

I'm not normally a lover of mass marketed lager - but I seem to like Hop House 13.

I can't find any clones - I think it has some fruity hops and the maltiness is quite pronounced.

Does anyone have experience of a clone or advice on how they get that malty balance?

Cheers,

BB

HERMS rig - best place for the thermostat sensor?

Just done my first HERMS run - 15 litres of mash liquor (6kg malt) - heated and controlled via a 30 litre kettle (2.4kW) and heat exchanger (both circulation pumps running at approx 12 litres per minute). The thermosensor (Inkbird controller) in the kettle - positioned in the flow of the return pipe...

Spent grain disposal - what do you do with it?

I'm interested to know what other brewers do with spent grain. I'm based in the UK and we have kerbside "food waste" collection via a small lidded bucket (OK for kitchen waste - but not big enough for kitchen waste and a batch of spent grain). I did once use the food waste bin - but the grain went s...

Re: Just ordered from MM--stressful!

I have just ordered a load of stuff from MM. Ordered Monday (no problem with website) and it arrived yesterday - which I think is very quick. I'd have been happy with this even without covid constraints. The MM website is really well laid out. I think that some people must have been on the site at a...

Cellar gas availability in lockdown

I bought my first proper regulator about 3 months ago - having, after a long search found a pub gas supplier who would let me collect and rent a small cylinder even though I'm not a pub or business (other sellers wanted trade accounts and minimum quantities/rent contracts suited to small commercial ...

Re: Room Temp when Priming Pressure Barrel.

I'd say that you are at the perfect temp. I have just done one at virtually the same temp (un heated room in house) - primed 7 days ago and I pulled the first glass last night - perfect for me - a lowish but smooth milky carb. However, I only used 40g of corn/sugar/glucose for the 22 litres in the k...

Pump flow control question

I'm just putting together a HERMS recirculating mash system - my first use of pumps in brewing. The pump I'm using is the Malt Miller £85 mag coupled one. If I need to restrict the flow (which I think is unlikely - but I want to be ready in case I do), am I correct to think that the restriction tap ...

Gravity fed counter flow?

I'm thinking of buying the Malt Miller "Coolossus" counter flow chiller and using without a pump. The gravity head on my current set up would give a head differential of about 12 inches to the counter flow device outlet. I could increase this to 24 or 30 inches with a bit of carpentry. Will this wor...
