Re: Right temperature for White Labs yeast?

I thought the recommended approach was to start at the bottom of the range e.g. c17.5-18c, then raise to c 20-21 once fermentation starts to slow, to ensure the yeast finishes up properly

Re: Anyone used Dingemans Pale? Drop in sub for Maris Otter?

Hello PW,

Sorry, never used this grain, but would also like to give it a go. Would you mind saying what price, and where, you have seen it?.

Cheers

Rob

Does it taste ok?. If yes then sod waiting for it to clear, tell anyone that wants to know that it is a NEIPA and drink it immediately.

Re: Pilsner Recipe

You could always brew as normal and then lager in the bottle. In a big bucket of iced water if the weather makes it necessary.

Re: cheapest website for star san

Couple of ideas; Malt Miller do an own brand no rinse sanitiser. It is about 1/3rd cheaper than SS. I've tried it and it works fine. They also have Star San for £13. Alternatively, if you have a few brew buddies, Brew UK do a 3.78 litre Star San for £55. That is about half the price per litre of the...

Re: Baird's Malt

I would describe it as clunky rather than tricky, online registration followed by a one page form. A bit frustrating when you are used to click and pay, but not particularly problematic. For me, it was worth the small extra effort to get hold of grain at £12/ sack. Previously I had been paying £17-2...

Baird's Malt

I wanted to share my positive experience with Brewers Select/Baird's Malt. I was a little unsure about buying from this source, as I had read online that Baird's Malt hadn't worked so well for people. However, I had a business trip up the A1 planned so thought I would give it a go. The ordering proc...

Re: how low avarage cost of a pint

Depends, mainly whether you buy your grain by the kg, or by 25kg sack. Also whether you use liquid yeast or dried. Reckon the cheapest you could go is 25kg of muntons lager malt for £15, 200g of hops for about £6 and 5 sachets of Cross my loof kolsch yeast for about £3.65. In total £25 for about 200...

Re: Moving/lifting full fermenters?

I have a couple of 60 litre fermenters. I find that when full the best technique to move them is to make lots of grunting noises and swear at bit!. It isn't so bad when there are two of us brewing, but when it is just me it is tough. Stating the obvious, i know, but i do tend to restrict myself to 4...

Re: All Grain Starter Kit

My only suggestion would be that you consider Brew In A Bag (BIAB) before making a final decision. For less money you could end up with the capacity to make more beer. Noting that you would be brewing with a buddy, i'm sure you would soon get fed up with a brew day only yielding 20 bottles each. Tak...

Re: New AG set up...starting from scratch...any comments?

You've picked some nice equipment and should be able to brew some great beer with it. My only suggestion that you consider is the size of your brewing kit. I began brewing with a 50l biab set up, that was suited for c20-25l batches. One of the things i loved about brewing was sharing my creations wi...
