Re: Cask shive and keystone, wood vs plastic

Wooden swell up to fill the...orifice. They also go mouldy easily and leave bits of wood in the cask. Plastic are much better imo. If you pm me your address i can send you some plastic for postage cost Ah that's great thanks for your help, I don't suppose you have any soft and hard spiles lying aro...

Cask shive and keystone, wood vs plastic

I was wondering if there is much difference between wooden and plastic shives and keystones for casks. I read somewhere that wooden ones are better because as they take on moisture from the beer they swell slightly and give a better seal?

There's a north east homebrew club meet up at the Town Mouse in Newcastle tonight at 7pm.

It's a Facebook group (I'm not on Facebook myself) but I intend on gatecrashing if anyone else is interested?
The next one's on Tuesday 9th @ 7pm - See you there if you can make it! :)
I'll be there!

Re: Jim's Northeast Brewer's Night.

I run the North East Home Brew Club and it would be great to see some you guys at one of our meet ups. We meet at 7pm at the Town Mouse on the second Tuesday of every month. I usually try and make the Jim's Beer Kit meet up nights too when they are on as well. Be good to see some new people though a...

Braumeister short malt pipe

Has anyone got a spare malt pipe for a 20l braumeister they might want to sell? Preferably a short one as I am looking to brew some smaller batches.

9 litre corny keg

I know this is extremely unlikely but does anyone have a 9 litre corny keg they want to sell for a not too extortionate price?

Torrified wheat

How many people out there add torrified wheat to their brews? Most recipes you find in books/online don't have torrified wheat in them, what are peoples thoughts?

Re: What fridges are we using?

I got a second hand Samsung fridge off ebay, the fridge part is taller than the freezer section and has some room left at the top for yeast etc.
