Re: How much Caramel ??
Hi guys, I am trying to make a clone of 'Marstons Merrie Monk Mild' long since discontinued. Rumors say it was Marstons Pedigree Bitter with Caramel in to darken it. Could anybody tell me how much Caramel I should add please? Cheers Andy You can use black malt instead. Using caramel imparts an off ...

Re: Water treatment
The sparge water needs salt additions in the same proportion as the mash. So 24/15 x the amount in the mash water.
Incidentally, 24+15 =39. What happens to the other 26litres? Are they used to top up the pre - boil volume? If so they should probably be treated inn the same way.

Re: Torbay area breweries
Teign Cellars, Cider Bar, Maltings Taphouse - all in Newton Abbot. Regular service on No 12 bus - about 20 mins. Hope the suggestion was not too late. It was for this trip, got back Sunday night after a nightmare drive due to the heavy rain down there, but useful info for next trip, thank you! Judg...

Re: Green hop recipe?
I made a golden ale using green Prima Donna. I just multiplied the hop amounts by three compared to using dried hops.
It was a very popular beer.

Re: BM mash time
I've just finished the chapter on mashing in John Palmer's How To Brew. He recommendeds 67c for 60 minutes as a baseline to start experimenting from. His general rule is 30 to 60 minutes at 65 to 68c He doesn't see a benefit from a higher mash out temp. at the end but says you can use a two step mas...

Re: Water analysing.
Brewlab offer a water analysis service. I don't know if they do it for home brewers but you could ask.

Re: Braumeister pump control
Did the BM come with the pump spped controls sealed? The original pump on my BM20 didn't have speed control but when it packed up the replacement was a newer model with the speed control. The control wasn't sealed and I remember finding some recommended settings on the BM website.

Re: Slightly hard water? No rinse sanitiser? What should I be using?
Just make up a StarSan solution and check the pH. It should be about 3 I think, the figure can be found on the manufacturer's website. If the pH gets too high, which it will over time chuck the solution out and mix up some more.
[Edit]
Don't be concerned if it has gone milky. It's the pH that matters

Re: Bottling from a keg
I have some gelatin so I will use some in a batch that I will be bottling in a few days.
Then maybe get some BrewBrite for the next batch that I plan to bottle

Re: Bottling from a keg
There is a method of producing bottle conditioned beer with no detectable sediment. You can empty the whole contents into a glass and still have crystal clear beer. I am fed up with explaining how to do it. I assume this is what you are not going to explain again? https://www.jimsbeerkit.co.uk/foru...
