Re: VERY VERY high OG, cold break proteins?
Ok. I gave it a very gentle mix and took another sample as the yeast was still very sluggish. Gravity 1.09 which is more sensible I think.

Re: VERY VERY high OG, cold break proteins?
If the yeast hasnt got going properly by the time I get home (was hardly bubbling this morning at all) I'll maybe try mix the batch gently and take another sample just to check again if it was a mixing problem.

Re: VERY VERY high OG, cold break proteins?
Im wondering if the sample taken from the fermetor maybe wasnt mixed with the topping up water, so it was MEGA sugary.?

Re: VERY VERY high OG, cold break proteins?
Hey Jocky, thanks for the reply. No offence taken as Ive done that once before and then realised haha. See recipe below. Steeping Grains 1 kg Maris Otter Pale 1 kg Golden Promise 0.5 kg Maltodextrin - (this stuff https://www.brewuk.co.uk/body-bru.html) however brewers friend only list (United Kingdo...

VERY VERY high OG, cold break proteins?
So I brewed an extract IPA with some steeping of grains. The calculated OG should have been 1.069 however when I measured it last night it was sitting way up basically off the scale at 1.15 so something crazy like 20% beer which I know is rubbish! Two things I'm wondering that could be causing this;...

Re: Kit tips for a friend just starting out
I started with extract brewing (March 2016) and am still doing it but I think its my last. I plan to move to BIAB which doesn't need any more equipment as far as I can work out (I already have a bag for steeping grains). I started with extract so I could get a number of brewdays done and become used...

Re: dry hopping
Always bag whether cones/pellets/et al. Experimenting with shop weights to get the bag to stay below the surface - still floating with a 2 oz weight so 2.5 oz next time I just use some sterilised fishing line or some nylon string and try it around the handle on my fermetor, the cap still goes on se...

Re: Dry Hopping Question
Im relatively new to all this too (6 brews under my belt but all with a dryhop). I think the times are recipe dependent and an average would be 5days after 5days but your timings wont do any harm. FYI I just have one fermentor also and dryhop this way. I also add some glass beads into the sock to we...

Re: Help! - what pot for induction
I haven't been brewing long (6 extract brews under my belt) but I too have induction but just a cooker not standalone like your Buffalo. I got a 33L High End Brew Pot from brewbuilder and its been great. My hob can be a little fussy at times and never had a problem with it. Guessing they do bigger o...
