I brewed this for last xmas, was a porter/stout style, can never remember which has more roast malts!
It came out well but i under primed so was a little flat.

Re: Dark birthday beer
Thanks for the links on balance.
As for the recipe, i dropped the chocolate but kept the rest. Came out very dark and 'roasty', got 500g of coffee beans for secondary.
Took some inspiration from brewdog king imp.

Re: SMaSH - Topaz or Motueka?
this is the plan
the oats seem to add some nice mouth feel to my beers, or just my taste buds are shot
so guess not really a SMaSH!

Re: SMaSH - Topaz or Motueka?
I've got 200g of cascade and 500g of summet,
Used Cascade loads lately and a little bored of it!
Never used summet, this works out about 68IBU, might drop the summet to 15g

Hop choice
Brewing a pale ale ish beer today.
The mash is on but not decided on the hops yet, got these to chose from.
Think i'll put the chinook in at 60min given i've only got 8g if them. Anyone used the Motueka or Topaz?
