Re: SS Brewtech 10 Gallon Kettle
Not clear on what you're asking? There are no fittings in between, the trub dam just pushes into the back of the tap, two little O rings seal it. Have a look at the pictures on the Brewtech website.

Re: Any groups in or around the Preston area?
Yes, I'm interested. I've been to Hoppy Days homebrew forum a couple of times but like you say it is probably too difficult for most to attend without driving. Possible locations in Preston that I would suggest would be Guild Ale House micropub in the centre, another slightly out of the centre would...

Re: Buffalo induction - max brewlength it could handle?
Thermawrap certainly doesn't melt, I wrap it round twice and add a couple of straps to keep it in place. I found Homebase was the best place to buy it from.

Re: Buffalo induction - max brewlength it could handle?
I use a 15g Brewtech kettle (insulated with thermawrap) on my buffalo, the overhang isn't a problem for the hob. I brew 5g batches which means I am usually boiling 32L of wort without a problem. The boil doesn't tend to be over vigorous so I'm not sure you would get a good vigorous boil with 47L, I'...

Re: Fermenting temperature
You don't need to worry about your water with a kit, the mash is where water treatment maybe necessary. With a kit the mash process has already been done.
Use a Camden tablet and that's all you'll need, just crush and add to your tap water.

Re: Temp sensor positioning during crash chill
Many people will disagree with this but MEASURE THE AIR, do not stick it to the side of the FV unless you have a second probe in the air that prevents overshoot. The bulk of the wort will settle at the air temperature. Sticking it to the FV with a single probe will unnecessarily overwork the fridge...

Re: Dry-Hopping advice wanted
Interesting read. I've tried many methods for dry hopping and my current methods depend on whether i am dry hopping with pellets or leaf. If I am using leaf I transfer to a secondary and use a weighted hop sock, the reason for using a secondary is so the weight isn't sitting in thick trub on the bot...

Re: Total Disaster
Arrghh. Just found it - 'Adjust temp for equipment'. Checked that and it went to a strike temp of 79.2 - an extra 5.4 degrees. Guess what - that's more or less how short it was when I first mashed in. A strike temp of 79°C seems a bit high from my experience. I've had a 10 gallon SSBrewtech mash tu...
