Re: Blocked Pump !

Hello Chef, you are a hero :-) As I mentioned, I take and clean the filter off after each brew, often dont put it back until ready to brew. Have forgotten it, but never when its got to 65 degs. Yoy must have cast iron skin, or 3 pairs of gloves, but even then Im thinking the water would come over th...

Re: Blocked Pump !

Yes, a jubilee clip sounds the easiest. I like to clean out the filter after every brew, so that means getting the screwdriver out etc etc was hoping to avoid that. Am at a bit of a loss how it came off, it had come off before so I was being careful not to stir too deep, and no I hadnt had a pint wh...

Re: Blocked Pump !

An update ;-) I have unblocked the pump - Hurrah. The problem was a slug of compressed hops blocking the exhaust outlet. I took the hose off the outlet first, meaning to take the whole pump out, but i could see some hops just sticking out. Got a pair of tweezers and pulled them out, it looked like a...

Re: Blocked Pump !

Thanks for your reply SB. Yes Im also from a BIAB background, the one thing the GF is good at is the mash, extreemly accurate compared to BIAB. Not that my beers actually taste any better :-) I dont intend to sell will keep using it but given my time over I would not have bought it. Thanks for the i...

Blocked Pump !

Hi looking for a bit of advice on my blocked pump. Had a brew today and when I came to do the cooling into the fermenter the pump didnt pump. Made a noise but only a drip came thro. The filter had come off; and as I was usung leaf hops then I suspect they are jamming up the pump. This is the second ...

Re: Quantities of Sparge water

Thanks for the replies Dont want to turn this into a GF only comments. I have been using the pre boil vol method with the GF for the last two brews, its easy, just mark off on a paddle the level I wanted before starting, and then use it to measure the height of wort. With the SG method I would need ...

Quantities of Sparge water

Hello A month or so ago I posted some Qs on the GF board about sparging (I was a BIABer who bought a GF so knew little about it, except what it was). I got the answers to my Qs but since then been doing a bit of reading and watching a few YouTube vids. My new Qs, or rather looking for comments are m...

Re: Fruit Wine Q

Hello Wanus Yes I am in N Lincs, by that I mean North Lincolnshire England. Personally I would not have thought elderberries were out yet, I expect them Sept time, but am not an expert, and have not looked out for them, so maybe with all the hot weather we have been having they are early. Will have ...

Re: Fruit Wine Q

Thanks for the replies Just one correction, they are Blackcurrants, not Blackberries. I think I confused it by referring to the fruits as berries, sorry for that. Planning to squash them with a potato masher. Dont have any elderberry bushes, but where I live in N Lincs am sure there are a load of "w...

Fruit Wine Q

Howdo This is my first attempt at fruit wine making, Im basically a BIAB/GF beer brewer. This year I have a load of fruit from my allotment left over - in the past I have made it into jam, mushed up for pies/crumbles, or made into cordial. This year am thinking to make some wine. Specifically at the...

Re: Converting my BIAB recipes to Grainfather

Hello Dave S Yes it looks as if I will have to put my hand in my pocket and get the BS. Apart from the parting with the money :-) I would expect the BS to be a fairly complex prog and need a load of effort (both in time and mental effort) to manipulate it. Was hoping to avoid that. Are you willing t...

Re: Converting my BIAB recipes to Grainfather

Thanks for the replys I dont have beersmith so am not familiar with it. On another thread Daves has indicated the formula for sparge water that is better than the GF one. I think I did not exactly explain my problem. I have a load of recipes than were calculated with BIABacus, this prog calcs all th...

Re: Converting my BIAB recipes to Grainfather

Thanks for the reply aamcle I have looked at the GF website. The recipes section seemed to me just to allow you to enter a recipe, not to actually calculate anything. The calculations section is just simple calculations of a few things, it seems to me that changing amounts of water will change ABVs ...

Converting my BIAB recipes to Grainfather

Hello again I have a load of BIAB recipes, most if not all designed in BIABacus. I want to convert them to recipes for the Grainfather. Anyone had this problem and got a simple solution? I would guess that I could convert with commercial progs, and it may be possible within BIABacus but I thought I ...

Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster

Hi again Its not so much now. In many ways, for me at the moment, its easier and simpler to brew in the garage. Its in the winter. As I have not done it I dont know for sure but Im thinking I dont want windows and doors open in the depths of winter. As I already have a RKV extractor fan, I was think...
