Re: Hose

My only experience with silicon hose is from BrewUK and it kinks very easily, especially when hot. Wasn't impressed.

I'd be interested in a source of a stiffer silicon hose as the PVC stuff is only rated to 65C before potentially giving its own (unwanted) flavour contribution.

Re: Carawheat

I just treat it as crystal malt made with wheat rather than barley (because that's what it is). If you think in those terms and use it at around 3-5% you'll be ok for most IPAs and bitters.

Re: Filtering beer

I find that leaving the wort to settle for an hour, then slowly running off through the ball valve (via a bazooka filter) gives me very clear wort. This is of course in addition to the other processes I've already detailed in my previous post. I suppose you could leave the wort to settle out in a fr...

Re: Filtering beer

There are a few key processes I find that are important to clear beer, and you really need to be getting your beer clear as possible at each stage (imo). * recirculate your mash - I've found that recirculating with a pump in the last 15 minutes gives me a clear wort with no 'bits' transferred to the...
