Re: Minch Malt 20 GBP a bag.

I've been using it my last couple of brews, it's decent malt. Good efficiency from it, and seems to taste good (better than MO to my taste buds anyway....). I eBIAB though, and have a pretty fine pored bag, so wouldn't notice the crush much.

Re: Demise of Hop and Grape

Update: 1st order duly completed, delivered next day by DPD exactly as requested, their auto notifications can be confusing but they deliver reliably, on schedule and where expected. Delighted with MM service and quality as expected! :D If you have an Android phone (possibly available for iPhone to...

Re: AG BIAB #13 POTUS45 Grisette Thing

It's true for me, and to me this is what matters. The last time I had a lot of trub make it into the FV, it got disturbed when it came time to transfer for bottling, and I lost more beer. I am talking about MY opinions about home brewing and MY experiences with it, not somebody else's, here. Frankly...

Re: New fermenter

Thanks for putting the measurements. Nice addon, but I think my wife would rather I just went with a fermentation fridge to be honest. lol I was thinking along the lines of kettle - graduated bucket - speidel FV, that way the lack of markings won't be a problem and I'll know my volume into fermenter...

New fermenter

I bought a new fermenter, so thought that I would show it off. 30 Litre Speidel fermentation tank, with their massive airlock and the spigot options. The airlock really is HUGE, so hopefully no more need for blow off tubes with this baby to cope with gas production even with M29 yeast. Fermen...

Re: My First try at Mead.......

Not pectin, pectic enzyme. Sorry for the confusion. Your goal is to remove the pectin rather than to add any, as otherwise the pectin naturally present in some types of fruit makes your mead cloudy. It also helps to break down the cell walls in your fruit, extracting more juice whilst your making yo...

Re: My First try at Mead.......

Yeah, tons here too, even more than last year! Early as well! Will have to buy raspberries this time around though if the Mrs wants the Rubamel again, my parents don't grow them any more sadly.

Re: My First try at Mead.......

Hi Mucky, Never tried it myself but Acton and Duncan's mead book advises against blackberry and elderberry meads due to their tannin content. They advocate pretty much everything else though! If you're stuck for something to do with brambles I'd suggest creme de mure or a bramble wine. Piffle, I ha...

Re: Grainfather filter vs hop pellets

I don't have a grainfather, but this is why I prefer whole hops! I had nothing but trouble with my old boiler using pellet hops, it'd clog up every single time within a few seconds of starting to transfer, and I'd end up using my auto syphon and losing more volume when bottling thanks to all of the ...

Re: Mosaic Pale Ale.

Galaxy in a single hop ale is great. But as with all things brewing, it can be improved upon. After getting the basic flavour profile, I started adding various combinations of either Motueka, NZ Cascade, Rakau and/or Wai-iti. All different = all good. Much like mosaic then. I absolutely adore mosai...

Re: Mosaic Pale Ale.

It's supposed to complement mosaic very well, as is Citra. I've only really tried Amarillo before now with it, and it's just the usual grapefruit, which is nice but gets a bit boring. I've not bought Galaxy yet either. I started all grain brewing the same year the Galaxy crop got bought up by a cert...

Re: New BIAB boiler build.

Sadly none of them worked on the 1st brew day, as I didn't have any good enough filters fitted. So they ended up so much decoration. lol The second brew day, where I fitted bazookas to both, both worked as they should, but I used the pump one for transfer AND pumping purely for the sake of simplicit...

Yeah, I usually start much earlier too, putting the RO on about 6am. This one was a bit of a impulse brew though. Lol

Re: AG BIAB #14 Wen's Lunch Revisited

Right, time to wrap this brew day report up. So, brewing in the dark, maybe not one to repeat, but amusing for a one off  BrewingInTheDark.jpg I ended up tweaking my volumes a bit, my kettle top up I upped to 6 litres rather than 4, purely because I had the room. Whirl-pooling may have been...

Re: AG BIAB #14 Wen's Lunch Revisited

Ok, soo... ALWAYS make sure you brew close to a drain so you have some where for the water from the immersion chiller to go to... Start your brew day earlier when you don't have an outside light. I'm working with a head lamp strapped onto my head here... Oh and yeah, think I am going to give in and ...
