Re: The Old Swan Inn pub & brewery
Just up the up the road is the Titanic anchor replica that was made in the area. I live not to far away and I have never been in there  Put them on your bucket list! Up until the pandemic I used to be a regular in Ma Pardoes and have spent a bit of time in the Bull and Bladder also. Ma Pardoe...

Re: Brew Builder conical racking arm O rings
You could try these people, I used to use them for cup seals and o rings when I was in business. They have a hell of a range and used to be very helpful.
barnwell.co.uk I don’t think they have a viewing website, but have branches throughout the uk.

Re: Checking Graham's water treatment calculator
For what it’s worth I use Graham’s water treatment for Burton pale ale for a draught Bass clone. The main difference in the treatment is the addition of far more Magnesium sulphate than if I were treating water for bitters or pale ales. I accept that my water profile is maybe a lot different to your...

Re: Brew Uk
Interesting this. If it’s the same Youngs Home brew as the one in my neck of the woods (West Midlands), they are a well established company of many years selling only to trade customers. Many of their products I’ve bought indirectly. Perhaps they are spreading their wings and supplying us public. I ...

Re: Alternative to London yeast.
I like CML Firm - less atttenuative and adds a little flavour. Tbh, their "four" is good if not better than s-04 https://www.crossmyloofbrew.co.uk/yeast-specs Yes, the Firm is probably worth a try. I also use S04 it drops like lead, but the lower attenuation of London gives me a little more flavour...

Alternative to London yeast.
I’ve recently discovered Lallemand are discontinuing London yeast. I use this yeast frequently, its inability to ferment all the sugars in the wort gives me a full bodied taste that I prefer in my pale ales and bitters, gravity tends to stop at around 1016. I think Windsor will do the same, but I’m ...

Re: Fool Proof Pilsner
34/70 (https://fermentis.com/en/product/saflager-w-34-70/) is a forgiving yeast that ferments a little warmer than liquid lager yeasts. I use it in the winter when my basement is around 13C. Yep, agree with this yeast, it’s a good yeast to get you on your way. Due to the time of the year you will b...

Re: Snozzle yeasts
I have grown yeast from bottles of Proper Job successfully and used the yeast to make a more than passable beer, so if these are bottle conditioned, you’re in with a good shout. Let us know how you get on. I’ll second that, have grown yeast from Proper job bottle conditioned several times to brew T...

As I started this topic, I thought I’d also better confirm that Neil is providing reports for us again. Sample sent.

Re: Water treatment for Leffe blonde.
Thought I’d give an update on this one. I brewed the Leffe in early March, I took Eric’s advice on board with water treatment and went for sweet pale ale in Grahams water treatment file. I had a poor extract efficiency which I referred to in another post, but Eric mentioned to obtain OG with the ing...

Re: Water analysing.
Hi everyone. I have in the past got my water analysed by Neil of Phoenix Analytical, I want another test and have emailed him but have had no reply. He may be on holiday etc, so I’ll give it a little longer before trying again. Does anyone know if he’s still doing tests, and if not a recommendation...

Re: Very poor extract efficiency.
I’m glad you mentioned the candy sugar Eric, I gave it nine points not knowing the difference between solid sugar and liquid, it’s obviously less. The mash itself seemed to go fine. I roughly followed your guidelines and a call from the MaltMiller on the water treatment, the mash ph was a little hig...

Very poor extract efficiency.
I’m scratching my head here! I’ve not long brewed the Leffe Blonde kit from the MaltMiller, I posted on recommendations on the water treatment in the appropriate section. Having followed the mash instructions, I batch sparged as usual in two stages, I always check the gravity before draining into th...
