Re: Cooper Stout (with pic)

 What in gods name kept ye so long, Mick?! Can't you take a hint? Tis a lively sort of foamer though, isn't it? During both fermentation And pouring from a keg. I find that. Try spending some time in Eire, mate. See how an Irish Landlord knows how to make a thirsty man suffer. First, t...

Re: Priming a Barrel

Hi In using so much priming sugar do you not also get a sweeter taste?? BEZ (novice) Nah - it ferments out - more carbonation, different head Click here for illustration (that's my theory, anyhow). It might be a bit sweet if you draw it off too soon, but it will get there in the end. I'm reckoning ...

Re: Quaffing summer ale

Brupaks Brewer's Choice Best Bitter (option 1 or 1½ - either a kilo of brewing sugar or ½ kilo light spray malt with ½ kilo brewing sugar) - will be light on body, not much of a malty flavour and colour but retain a good 'fruity' hop aroma - well option 1½ did for me; the neighbour (lager drinke...

Re: Top Tap Float

Hi welshbrew83 - how does using the dalex tap compare to the standard KK taps - those taps are a pain in the arse - I had one that got so stiff that I fashioned a 'wrench' out of a piece of wood with six nails hammered through in a hexagon and cut down, just to pour myself a bloody pint! The missus ...

Re: Priming a Barrel

I've noticed differences in the head of the pulled pint, and as far as I can ascertain, the amount of priming sugar makes a difference. When I first started kit brewing, I counted out the sugar spoons for priming. I've since bought myself some snazzy electronic scales and counted out the spoons in t...

Re: Priming a Barrel

I find that if I use around 80g sugar for priming my pressure barrels, I get the pressure but the head of the pint is a bit 'weak'. Using 100g +, I get a much tighter, creamier head and a 'lively' pint but still avoid that horrible sharp fizziness that you get with bottles. That's my personal prefer...

Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you decide that you have excessive pressure in the barrel, try pinching/pulling on the 'rubber band' seal on the outside of the valve to release some pressure. If the tap is leaking from the 'mount', you might be able to tighten it a little without having to take the lid off the barrel by clockwi...

Re: total n00B

Really, you ought to condition the PB where you'll be using it to fill your glass - moving the barrel will just stir the muck up from the bottom and you're going to have to leave to settle again (unless you want to drink it looking like gravy  ). It will take longer to condition/clear in the wa...

Re: Holland & Barrett Malt Extract?

I'm wondering whether the proportion of fermentable sugars to the non-fermentable ones will be fit-for-purpose.
