Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster

Tried using oxyclean on mine. Live in a hard water area.. didn't work..
Left horrid white residue in the gf.
Spent forever cleaning again to get rid.

Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster

Curious Dave. Do you calculate the figure manually using the formula in the ibstructions or do you use the figure the app gives you? If I use their figure for Sparge water, I will always be 2.5-3L short at the end. 0.8 as a grain retention figure is plainly wrong. Sent from my Mi A1 using Tapatalk ...

Re: Grainfather first brew - bit of a disaster

Yes. Sparging takes that long. It’s not only the amount of grain that determines it but the size of the crush. Don’t worry about it, just let it sparge.. I can recommend a sparge water heater , it helps tremendously with having the right amount of spargewater to hand). You picked quite a complex rec...

Re: Help with fruit.. incorrectly added.

How much cherries did you add? I added frozen raspberries to a beer before in primary and the raspberry character was great. That was a pale beer so I got a lovely colour and piles of raspberry flavour too. I only added about 1.5kg too. I think yours will be just fine although I've read that you ne...

Re: Help with fruit.. incorrectly added.

Rob Would be interested to see your recipe/process/etc. Did a cherry porter last year using 100% tart cherry juice (into secondary) which was both expensive and, for the cost, underwhelming. Have just bottled a Wonky Berry Porter (Morrsions Frozen Wonky Berry 1kg pack) - cheap but messy Jury is out...

Help with fruit.. incorrectly added.

Had a bit of a brew mare day... Was rushing / doing 10 things at once etc etc... Anyway... Brewed a cherry porter at weekend and incorrectly added my cherries to the fermenter at start of ferment rather than waiting and adding to secondary . Nothing I can do about it now as it's merrily fermenting a...

Re: Bottle cleaning question

Thanks for the help guys.. Will give the bottles another wash and let em dry out. Bought some beer crates with the idea of turning bottles upside down and leaving on crate ... Kinda works but the bottle 'fall through ' the crate !... Have a thought to design a 3d printed 'crate Topper' to allow upsi...

Re: Grainfather pump

I have the exact same problem. Brand new GF, 3 brews in and the pump makes that god awful noise and refuses to pump. Turning it on/off for a random amount of times gets it going. Even does it during clean cycle and blowing down the pipe tells me everything is clear. Have contacted GF and they tell m...

Re: First attempts..

Cheers for all the help. / Advice. Had a good clean up at weekend and definitely going to take advice and do a more simple single malt single hop brew next time. Planning on keeping it simple and leaving in keg with a few bottle conditioned too so I can compare the methods. My all out porter was als...
