You can smell the chlorine in our tap water before you even taste it. I use it for head retention in a lot of my brews, but I don't worry too much if I have none.
Did I read somewhere recently that you could substitute shredded wheat for it (other cereals are available), or did I dream that?

You'll probably need a heater to maintain a steady temperature, just chilling will overshoot and go too cold. I also tape my probe to the side of the FV. It would be really interesting to brew this using your own tap water without treatment (except for campden) and then swap bottles around the country to see how different water profiles affect the finished product.
