Re: Direct freezing of green/undried hops - any views?
Hi BB Did you freeze these ones w/o drying. The norm is to use 6x when using green hops. Although you probably retained some elements that normally blow off in the drying process. Still if it worked for you and made a great beer. Good for you. How are your hops looking like this year? Getting to cru...

Re: Direct freezing of green/undried hops - any views?
Forget I mentioned compost-won’t be an issue-but compost can occur via anaerobic process too. If it was me and I wasn’t drying I would vacuum pack and freeze. Use them quick. Experiment. Things to think about-less intensity so 6x amount needed which will make the grassiness even grassier. Get a herb...

Re: Direct freezing of green/undried hops - any views?
So would vac pack and refrigerate would allow extended storage. But not be as detrimental as freezing? I think same difference or maybe even worse. Once picked, hops want to compost. Having them in a fridge with light constantly on at a lower temp has gotta be worse than below freezing point imho. ...

Re: Direct freezing of green/undried hops - any views?
Hi I have dried fresh but the quality of them soon goes and they turn into paper and any flavour intensity goes . Drying also helps create more intense flavours and gets rid of the grassy/wet/flavour. Also Using green hops, you will need 5-6 times compared to dried hops. But give it a go and see wha...

Re: Propagating Hops from Rhizome Crown.
[quote="rpruen"]Maybe this will be of some use? https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/hops/propagating-hops-plants.htm Its relatively easy from what I remember, my father used to just cut the rhizomes into 6" sections and plant the resulting bits. They grow into new hop plants reasonabl...

Propagating Hops from Rhizome Crown.
Hello Has anyone tried to do this? I have been reading about it but don’t have the cagones to do it...so far. I have a 5 year old Goldings plant. And some other 3 year plants. I have propagated from shoots and been successful, but a good crown can give off up to 15 new plants (supposedly!) Just hate...

Re: Unmalted Barley
Cheers Jim. Good suggestion on the roasting. Will try that. “My plan” is to start off with using maybe 10% of total grain bill and take it up to a max of 25% over the next few brews if I don’t see a negative impact. And I will be putting it through the grain mill before using. Cheers CJ Sent from my...
