Re: Cleaning sterilising plate chiller ! Came up with this

Yeah it's a lot less water & hassle to just set this up and boil the kettle twice & set it away for 10 mins :D

Cleaning sterilising plate chiller ! Came up with this

Hi all, I recently started using my new plate chiller from Mr Lard and after reading a few posts here about different ways of cleaning & sterilising a plate chiller I decided to have a go at fashioning a cleaning system using my Solar Pump. I have been running the hot water from cooling my wort thro...

Re: Your best investments?

+1 for the Hop & Grape Bucket I've got one of those as my 1st all grain boiler (well actually it's my 2nd one as I messed up drilling the holes in the 1st one  ) and it's still going strong but been replaced with a shiny boiler

Re: 80 Shilling Brew Day

Hey Seymour, I know it won't be a hybrid yeast as such but as they're now mixed together in the 80 shilling they will both contribute different things to the finished beer, which I am excited to see what it tastes like and like you said I can re use it again & again. I still have a 1.5L bottle of my...

Bottle conditioned Beer list with yeast type?

Hey all, Just wondering if anyone knows of anywhere I can get a list of bottle conditioned beers and which yeast is used in each of the beers? I am sure I remember seeing something similar on Jims a while back. I am a great believer in reusing bottled conditioned yeasts to save money and to experime...

Re: 80 Shilling Brew Day

Hi Seymour, I checked on the brew on Sunday and it appeared to have stopped fermenting at 1.022  which I was not expecting from the WLP099 even after 2 years laying dormant. I had made a starter with some of the 80 shilling wort using the yeast from a bottle of Coniston Blue Bird Bitter to re...

Re: How to weigh a bag of dry hops down

Hi Gaz, I have used a large marble or stainless steel ball bearing or even a small shot glass all sterilised prior to going into your beer

Re: Ideas on suspending plate chiller under brewing table?

Decided to give the plastic coated hooks a try as they were only £1 each from a local hardware store. I will need to shorten the hose from the boiler to the beer in port on the plate chiller to cut down on the air in the tube and less distance for the wort to travel to the plate chiller http://i13.p...

Re: Ideas on suspending plate chiller under brewing table?

Hi Aleman, Why do I need the beer in at the bottom ? I thought it would be better to have beer in at the top and let gravity do the work of getting the beer through the plate chiller ? How do they work better when vertical ? I've already bought 2 of those plastic coated hooks for £2 so might give th...

Ideas on suspending plate chiller under brewing table?

Hey all, I have recently used a new plate chiller in my latest brew day and I had it balanced on top of a tool box on top of a calor gas heater under my brewing table whilst using it during my brew day. It wasn't ideal to have it balanced there and I am looking for a way to suspend the plate chiller...

Re: 80 Shilling Brew Day

Hi Dave, I put my recipe into Beer Smith and I got 1050 at 5.02% but I did a full volume mash so my efficiency may have been a bit lower plus I mashed at a higher temperature 70 degrees C so the beer would be a lower abv but better mouthfeel and body too the beer ! So that might explain the lower OG...
