Re: Making up short brew length

Thank you very much for that, yes, my instinct was to just keep on sparging as i felt it better to make up to full volume with sparged wort rather than just liquor, the former would impart some flavour and colour even if this was minimal. My fear if I stopped at 1.010 is that rather than making a li...

Making up short brew length

I normally brew strongish IPA using a cool box mash tun. My output from the tun post sparging is always a little short - say if I am aiming for 30 litre brew length, I generally end up with something like 25 litres from the mash tun before stopping the sparge because the gravity of the wort will hav...

Digiboil

I am needing a new HLT/Sparge Water heater. I currently use an old tea urn but its on its last legs. I was thinking about getting another similar one from Nisbets or the like but came across the Digiboil Turbo Boiler, see: https://www.thehomebrewery.co.uk/digiboil-digital-turbo-boiler-35l?gclid=EAIa...

Re: Wheat beer harvesting

Excellent, yes I believe I have some barley DME so will give that a go, just need to source the Schneider or Gutmann Wheat Beer and I'll be ready. Thanks for your help.

Re: Wheat beer harvesting

Thanks for that Ingo, I'll have a look for those beers locally, I assume I should grow a starter on a wheat DME rather than just pitching from several bottles of the beer?

Wheat beer harvesting

I am going to have a first attempt at a wheat beer and was wondering about harvesting yeast from a commercial bottle. Are there any commonly available wheat beers which don't use a priming yeast and which would be a good option for yeast harvesting? Failing that, any recommendations on a yeast to us...

Hallertau Nelson combo

Hi I currently make a lightly hopped IPA with Fuggles and Hallertau hopping. I'd like to pep it up a bit and as I enjoy Nelson Sauvin have thought I might introduce that as a third hop for late/dry hopping. Does anyone have any experience of Hallertau (Hersbrucker or Tradition) in combination with N...
